A post shared by Lynn Canyon (@lynn_canyon)

Opened more than 100 years ago, Lynn Canyon is the perfect outdoor destination for your family. With a selection of hiking and walking trails, picnic areas and popular swimming holes, the park also gives visitors access to the suspension bridge which hangs 50 meters above the canyon. The absolute best part of this park is that it is completely free. Details

LYNN CANYON ECOLOGY CENTRE

We are listing this as a separate destination because, although it is located at the Lynn Canyon Park, it is not necessary to visit the park in order to enjoy this center, or vice versa. Kids can learn about the animals and birds of the area, as well as the ecology and natural history through interactive exhibits and interesting talks. Special talks available during the summer months and school breaks. Details

GROUSE MOUNTAIN

Where should the list start? With both winter and summer activities available here, this is a year-round destination for the family. Kids will enjoy skiing, boarding, sliding and skating during the winter. Check out the year round Skyride, which is North America’s largest aerial tramway system, and which gives you the most excellent of views. Details

GROUSE MOUNTAIN ZIPLINES

There is so much going on at Grouse Mountain that we thought that this activity was worth a separate mention as an activity for kids. This 5-line zipline experience will have your kids gasping in excitement. Riders must weigh a minimum of 70 pounds in order to ride, but there are no age restrictions. This site operates year round, weather dependent. Details

EYE OF THE WIND

This attraction is also located on Grouse Mountain but is such a unique experience that it needs to be considered a destination on its own. This is the worlds only wind turbine that allows visitors to stand in a clear glass pod at the top of the tower. Along with inspiring views, this is an excellent, once in a lifetime opportunity for your kids to have an up close look at this type of responsible energy. Details

EARNEST ICE CREAM

Ice cream shops are always a good stop for kids, in good weather or in bad. A sweet treat can brighten any child’s day. This business offers quality ice cream in all sorts of flavours. With names like London Fog, Tahitian Vanilla, Apple Pie, Birthday Cake, Peanut Butter and Jam, Toasted Marshmallow, and more (there’s some yummy adult flavours, too), every family member will find something they like. Lots of vegan options round out the selection here. Details

Probably the best-known site in the Vancouver area, this site offers much more than just the bridge. Families can very easily spend the whole day here. The 450-foot-long suspension bridge hangs 230 feet above the river and is the start of an adventure. Kids will love the treetop adventure, the incredible cliff walk, the story center, and the living forest. With plenty of eating options, including an on-site ice cream shop, kids will have the time of their lives enjoying every aspect of this site. Details

Bumper bowling and ball ramps help your little kids enjoy the game as well. Enjoy the glow bowling times and challenge your kids to see who can get the first strike. Details

LASERDOME PLUS

Are your kids ready for some fun? First, we think the coolest thing here is the Karaoke Recording Studio, which features songs for everyone, including young children. Second, the four-level laser tag arena is a definite must, so kids can enjoy this fun tag through smoke, black lights and colorful LED lights. Third, kids need to check out the 3-wall climbing facility, with its 14 different routes. Fourth, the indoor playground is an amazing area for those 10 and under to enjoy. And lastly, the indoor solution to paintball but much less messy, everyone will love VBall – velcro balls that stick to the players clothes! Details

MURDO FRAZER PITCH & PUTT

Pitch and putt is the fastest growing version of golf in North America, and a much easier version for kids who are starting out playing, or for those who are practicing. Pitch and putt courses are always Par 3, so that means shorter greens and easier conditions. Kids will enjoy the time outside and the chance to learn this fun sport. Details

WELCOME PARLOUR ICE CREAM

With the name originating in a business that started more than 100 years ago, you know that years of quality must be put into this product. Natural ingredients are used to create small batch, absolutely yummy ice cream in all sorts of flavours. This cute shop offers up treats like ice cream sodas and homemade ice cream sandwiches, and even dairy free options! Details

Open year round, kids can get a behind the scenes experience, or meet the people who work on the farm and hear their stories, or even get some hands-on experience. Of course, the animals are the crowning glory here and everyone will love the chance to make some new animal friends. Details

This activity is appropriate for kids aged 12 and above.
