Part of the Greater Vancouver area, the municipality of Delta that includes Ladner, Tsawwassen, and North Delta has plenty of fun family activities where your kids can enjoy wildlife, birds, unique playgrounds, explore waterways, go hiking and many more fun activities!

GEORGE C. REIFEL MIGRATORY BIRD SANCTUARY

Even kids who don’t yet have a keen interest in birds will absolutely love this sanctuary. In an area that covers more than 300 hectares, you can find wetlands, treed paths and natural marshes. There are more than 300 bird species to be seen here, with the best time being in spring and summer months. Please come prepared to walk, as there are no bikes or skateboards allowed in the park. There are picnic facilities at the entrance to the park for your enjoyment. Details

BOUNDARY BAY REGIONAL PARK

 
Pack the sand toys and kites for the kids and head off to Boundary Bay Park and Centennial Beach. With miles of sand and some good winds for kite flying, this is a great place to spend the day. Kids can cool off in the water or grab a snack from the concession stand. Take a walk along the dykes or play a game of volleyball on the nearby courts. Bird watching is popular here as well since the park is along the Pacific Flyway migration route. Details

WATERSHED PARK

As Delta’s largest park, this is where kids of all ages will fall in love with hiking and mountain biking. There is plenty of signage to keep you on track, and approximately 11 kilometers of trails will keep your family active for quite a few hours. Beautiful scenery accompanies the trails, so you can’t go wrong if you pack a picnic and enjoy it in the Meadow, with its fantastic views of Mud Bay. Details

A handy U-Pick option close to everything that will give your kids the chance to pick their own berries. Dependent on the type of berry, picking usually starts mid-June and ends in August, but you can also find pumpkins available in the month of October. Seasonal veggies are also found here, you can contact them to see what is in season. A visit to the Ice Cream Stand is a must, to try a variety of ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes and smoothies, all made with fresh berries from the farm. Details

DEAS ISLAND REGIONAL PARK

 
This park is a good place to go with small children who you want to walk a short distance on their own or in a stroller. The pathway is completely flat, so it is an easy walk for smaller kids. There are plenty of picnic areas available, so pack a lunch and enjoy the quiet. For kids who have never seen eagles, this is an excellent place, as they are commonly seen flying or sitting in trees, with many nests around. Details

BURNS BOG and DELTA NATURE RESERVE

A great place to visit any day of the year, families can wander the boardwalks through the Delta Nature Reserve on their own at any time. If you prefer, join a public tour on every third Saturday to learn what a bog is and the unique ecosystem here. Private group tours are also available, just contact the society to get more details. OWL ORPHANED WILDLIFE

An amazing not-for-profit foundation that is dedicated to the survival of raptors that have been injured or otherwise in need. A visit here will open the eyes of your children to the world of different types of raptors. Tour are available from June to August, departing every half hour until 2:30 pm. On the tour kids will be able to meet some of the permanent resident raptors in the facility as well as enjoy the Wildlife Museum. Details

SUNSHINE WOODS GOLF CENTRE

 
This 18-hole, 3 par golf course is perfect for kids, beginners, or those who want to improve on their short game. Offering golf camps and junior programs, this is the perfect place to start your kids off on a lifetime of golfing. Players can practice on the putting green or head off to the full-sized driving range. Details

CANADIAN FLIGHT CENTRE

Kids who are interested in flying will love this unique activity. They don’t need any flying skills or previous experience, so this is perfect for those children who want to have a flying experience without leaving the ground. Flight simulators can take them on one of 40 different adventures with “destinations” around the world and different planes to choose from. FYI, this company also offers beginners flights, charters, day trips and more. Details

SUNGOD RECREATION CENTRE

A morning, afternoon or evening in the water is fun for kids of all ages. With five different pools to choose from, children can enjoy all the features here. Along with the main pool and sunshine pool, there is a shallow, jetted teach pool; a swirl pool; and a leisure pool with a tot bubble area. A sauna and steam room are also available. For other activities check out the rink, which provides skate rentals during winter months. Details

MCKITRICK GARDEN

 
Surrounding the Sungod Recreation Center you will find McKitrick Park and Gardens. With various walking trails, this is a nice place to spend some time with your kids in the outdoors. Teach your kids a little about growing veggies with a visit to the Community Gardens located here. Take a picnic and enjoy a quiet afternoon here. Details

ON THE GO! GELATO

Found in the Tsawwassen Quay Market, this little shop is a nice stop when catching a ferry out or returning to the Ferry Terminal. With a huge variety of gelato, sorbet, and frozen yoghurt, your kids will find a flavour they will enjoy. There are sugar free options as well. If your kids aren’t into the cold snacks, you can also find yummy kettle corn and homemade mini-donuts here. Details

LADNER OUTDOOR POOL

From May to September, kids of all ages can enjoy swimming outdoors. Staffed with lifeguards, this is a nice play for them to play, learn to swim, and in general just have fun. This is a hidden gem, and with extremely inexpensive prices during the week, and completely free on weekends, you can’t beat some family time here. Details

SARA’S OLD-FASHIONED ICE CREAM

Located in the heart of Ladner Village, still in the municipality of Delta, this mom and pop shop offers a good variety of ice cream, candy, ice cream cakes, and more. Flavours change with the seasons, so come back often to find new favourites. Kids will love a sweet stop here! Details

SUNSTONE PARK

 
This is a relatively new park that offers families a nice area to play and enjoy. With a basketball court and a playground, there are activities to keep both younger and older children active and engaged. Gather your family and take a walk along the trails and boardwalks around the park, feature pond and viewing decks to see the nearby Burns Bog area and the Fraser River. Details

BIG SPLASH WATER PARK

A seasonal destination for water slide lovers, a day here will tire your kids out and bring them hours of enjoyment. Featuring tube slides, body slides and kid friendly slides, this 7 acre slide park will quickly become a family favourite. Check out the new Boomerang Tube Slide, the only one in Western Canada! If you are travelling from Vancouver, make sure to look at the free shuttle available. Details

POPBAR

Offering traditional gelatos, made with natural ingredients, in a completely different form, this shop will delight your kids. Everything is made fresh daily using real fruit and few ingredients, so this is a healthy treat for your children. Kids can choose to get their pop dipped or covered in “poppings” making each one unique to their tastes. Details

BASS PRO SHOP

This may seem like a strange destination to take your kids if you have never experienced a Bass Pro Shop, but we guarantee that kids of all ages will enjoy this store and all of the activities and displays. Featuring a 15,000-gallon freshwater aquarium surrounded by full-sized wildlife mounts including black bears, black-tailed deer, elk and mountain lions, the aquarium holds live trout, salmon, and sturgeon. The Tsawwassen Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World also has a fun underwater themed restaurant and 12 lane bowling alleys to enjoy. Head on over on Thursday nights for kid’s night when they can enjoy some archery practice or BB shooting. Details

BROCKMANN’S CHOCOLATE

Chocolate lovers delight in this delicious destination, which offers yummy treats for all tastes. Every chocolate is made right in the facility in Delta with the finest ingredients. DIEFENBAKER PARK

 
While there are quite a few parks in Delta, this is one of the only parks that has an interactive water spray park for your kids to enjoy in the summer months. Completely created from the inspiration of the areas heritage of a gravel mining operation, all the water features are unique and totally fun. Surprises await your kids as they play here. In addition to the spray park families will find walking trails, a playground, picnic areas and a pond with a waterfall. Details

ANNIEVILLE LIONS PARK

 
The municipality of Delta has put a lot of planning and importance into park and playgrounds in the communities. This one is no exception. With a natural, unstructured playground made up of a log fort with a slide, log climber, leaping posts, and a mini-zipline along with other features, this park is perfect for a play stop for your kids. Picnic areas, a baseball diamond, walking trails, a forested area, and other sports courts are all available for family fun. Details

LADNER HARBOUR PARK

Many of Delta’s parks offer walking trails, and this one hosts some beautiful ones that wind their way along boardwalk areas and bark mulch and gravel walkways. With views of the Fraser River and harbour area, there are chances to glimpse wildlife here as well. Kids will enjoy the nature along with the playground and picnic areas. This absolutely humongous wildlife sanctuary is a must do for families that love a variety of outdoor activities. You can access the land areas to enjoy a variety of walking trails, but if you have access to a boat, the best way to enjoy this area is on the water. This will give your kids the best opportunities to view wildlife in the area. Get your kids out on a canoe or kayak and let them have a try at fishing, or merely to enjoy the quiet and the nature. WELLINGTON POINT PARK

 
A fantastic place to take your young kayakers and canoers. With a pier and various viewpoints, this is a popular place for locals to get out on their self-propelled watercraft. There are picnic tables available here for your family to have lunch or a snack before or after your activities on the water. Details
