About Fort Calgary
Fort Calgary was the northernmost link of the western branch of the Old Forts Trail. The town of Calgary grew around this National and Provincial historic site, and rail travel transformed it from a remote frontier post to a bustling urban center.
Fort Calgary is operated by the Fort Calgary Preservation Society. The Society’s mandate is to preserve, utilize, develop, interpret and promote Fort Calgary for the benefit of the citizens and visitors to the city of Calgary. Hunt house built in 1876 for a Hudson Bay employee, the oldest structure on its original structure stands across the Elbow river. Deane House, now a restaurant, another old structure which was built for a commanding officer of the Mounted police, stands on the same side as the Hunt house.

Fort Calgary is located on 40 acres of parkland on the eastern edge of downtown Calgary; right on the N.E. corner of 9th Avenue and 6th St. S.E. You can walk along the elbow river to the Fort at a slow pace in about 30 minutes from downtown.It is accessible by public transport To reach Fort Calgary, is also served by Calgary BRT routes 302 & 305 with stop number 9821.
