Free Comic Book Day 2026 returns this Saturday, and you can get free comics and merch from your local comic shop.
Free Comic Book Day is a single day, the first Saturday in May each year, when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE to anyone who comes into their stores. Every comic shop has its own rules, and selection may vary.
This year’s lineup features 24 releases from major and independent publishers. Among them are Aquamanatee #1 Special Edition and DC x Sonic #1 Special Edition from DC, alongside The Nice House on the Lake #1. Image offers an Energon Universe FCBD 2026 Special, while Dynamite Entertainment adds Stitch #1 and Supernatural #1.
There’s a wide range beyond superheroes. Archie Comics contributes World of Archie One-Shot, Titan Comics brings Conan the Barbarian: Tides of the Tyrant King #0, and UDON Entertainment features Mega Man Showdown Special #1 and Street Fighter Forever #0. Vault Comics rounds things out with Dungeon Crawler Carl #0 and Inanna: The Name She Lost #0.
Call your local comic shop and check out their Facebook page and/or website to see what their Free Comic Book Day policy is, in addition to what extra events will be taking place during their FCBD.
Some comic shops give out 1 to 2 comics, while others give out more. It is good to know how many comics you can expect to get for free, so you can plan out if you want to visit other comic shops to see if you can get more free comics and different books.
Many participating shops also host activities like costume contests, creator signings, and raffles. Each store approaches the day differently, which is part of the appeal.

Free Comic Book Day is the biggest celebration of comic books and a great time to discover new types of comics! It’s the perfect time to see what your local comic shop has in store – a time to read new comics, get kids involved in reading, and have fun as a community!
