GoFundMe has released its Annual Giving Report for the year 2022.
The report highlights how the global GoFundMe community supports those in need.
GoFundMe says 1 donation was made every second across the globe to help those who needed it most in 2022.
Canadians donated 26 million this year through the platform.
The fundraising site has also listed the top most generous cities in Canada. The list is based on the number of donations per capita.
Just like last year, North Vancouver took the top spot as the most generous Canadian city, while Burlington and Vancouver came in second and third positions respectively.

The popular fundraisers on GoFundMe for 2022 were:
- North Vancouver — A fundraiser raised over $264,000 to help Canadian rugby star Nick Allen, after a crash in Bali left him injured.
- Burlington — The community helped a Ukrainian family of eight resettle in Canada.
- Vancouver –After the beloved Gain Wah restaurant in Chinatown was lost to fire, the community raised $36,000 to help them rebuild.
- Belleville — When strong winds ripped through Belleville in June, locals helped raise funds to rebuild Chilangos restaurant.
- Kingston — The Wolfe Island community banded together to help a family who lost their historic barn in a devastating fire.
- Guelph — Thousands were raised to help ensure that Guelph’s Royal City Studios stayed open following budgetary restraints brought on by the pandemic.
- New Westminster — Locals helped raise funds for climate activist Tim Takaro after he was fined in the TMX pipeline protests.
- Victoria — After the shooting of six police officers, over $277,000 was raised to help members of The Saanich Police Association and Victoria City Police Union as they healed from the tragic event.
- Peterborough — Curve Lake First Nation community raised over $17,000 to purchase a new wheelchair for an Elder in need.
- Nanaimo — After thieves made off with thousands of dollars in football equipment, locals rallied to help them recoup their losses
Globally, $25 billion was donated to individuals and nonprofits, and 17 million thank-you messages were sent and received on GoFundMe. May 26, 2022, was the most generous day of the year on the platform.
