The community was chosen to host the province’s official event after a call for proposals. As host, the Grand Falls Regional Municipality will receive $30,000 to help support the celebration.
Premier Susan Holt said New Brunswick Day gives people across the province a chance to come together and reflect on the history and identity they share. She pointed to Grand Falls as a fitting host because of its bilingual character, community pride and the way it brings people from different backgrounds together.
Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Isabelle Thériault said residents and visitors are invited to take part in activities for all ages. She described Grand Falls as a community known for its falls, natural beauty and vibrant bilingual culture.
Mayor Bertrand Beaulieu said preparations are already underway for a celebration that reflects the spirit, traditions and diversity of New Brunswick, including the vitality of its two official linguistic communities.
The official New Brunswick Day event is expected to highlight the province’s history, culture and people, while giving Grand Falls a chance to welcome visitors from across the region.
Beaulieu said the municipality is planning an “exceptional program” for Aug. 3, with activities intended to appeal to people of all ages.
