Ikea Canada will open a store in the small-format store concept at Scarborough Town Centre.

As per the news release, the nearly 7,500 m2 ground floor location at the shopping centre’s northeast end will become the company’s second small-format store in Canada, following the launch of the IKEA Toronto Downtown – Aura location earlier this year.

Ikea says no self-serve furniture will be available and larger furniture items will be on display for home delivery. The store will also offer a unique food concept.

Ikea opened its first store in Toronto in 1977. All other 4 locations of Ikea in GTA (Burlington, Etobicoke, North York and Vaughan) – are large-format stores where all products including large furniture and appliances are available for immediate purchase and takeaway (pending availability).

“The planned Scarborough store is part of our broader investment in sustainability, affordability, and omnichannel shopping experiences that help to make us more accessible to our customers,” said Michael Ward, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer, IKEA Canada in a statement.

IKEA Canada is part of Ingka Group which operates 389 IKEA stores in 32 countries, including 15 in Canada.
