IKEA Tests Smaller Store Concept with New London Location

IKEA is trying something different in Canada, starting with a new kind of store in London, Ontario.

The company says it plans to open a smaller-format location in Fall 2026 inside White Oaks Mall at 1105 Wellington Road, a long-standing shopping destination in the city. Unlike its large warehouse-style stores, this one is designed for quick, everyday visits.

IKEA Canada says the space will be about 43,000 square feet, roughly one-fifth the size of its Burlington store. Inside, customers will find more than 2,000 home essentials and seasonal items available for immediate purchase.

The idea is to make shopping simpler. Instead of walking through a massive showroom, visitors can browse curated room setups, pick up key items, or place orders for the full product range with delivery or pickup options.

Selwyn Crittendon, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer, says the move is part of a broader shift. As the company approaches 50 years in Canada, it is focusing on becoming more accessible and adapting to how people shop today.

The London location will also include planning services, with staff available to help customers design spaces, along with a small food offering.

This is not IKEA’s first step in the city. In March 2024, it opened a plan and order point where customers could book appointments for home projects like kitchens or storage systems.

Now, with this smaller-store concept, the company is testing a faster, more flexible way to expand, aiming to reach more communities without building full-scale locations.
