The Holiday Train will return to the rails this season for its 27th cross-continent tour this November.
In November, two decorated trains will make the festive journey, travelling through the U.S. and Canada to bring holiday cheer to many communities along the Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway’s network.
Each event is free, and CPKC encourages attendees to open their cupboards and wallets to help address hunger in their communities. Local food banks will be accepting donations at each stop to ensure those less fortunate have enough healthy food this holiday season.
This year’s tour will feature 196 live shows across six Canadian provinces and 13 U.S. states. Thirteen new communities will be added to the route, including first-time stops in Maine, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Ontario.
The Canadian Train leaves for Metro Vancouver and will depart from Lac-Megantic, Quebec, travelling west, wrapping up the tour on December 20th at Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.
The U.S. Holiday Train will depart Montreal on November 19, visiting communities in southern Ontario and down through Chicago to Kansas City. The train will finish its journey back to Canada with the final show in Gleichen, Alberta on December 21.
What to Expect
A typical Holiday Train event involves the train arriving, stopping in front of the crowd, and lowering its stage door for a band performance. There’s a brief presentation with local food bank officials, followed by the band playing holiday and original songs. After the final song, the train moves on to the next stop.
Performers for the 2025 edition include Barenaked Ladies, Smash Mouth, Tyler Shaw, Brittany Kennell, Jade Eagleson, JJ Wilde, American Authors, Pynk Beard, Teigen Gayse, Lanco, Tiera Kennedy, and Dylan Marlowe.
The Holiday Trains do not offer public rides. The trains are beautifully adorned with LED lights and holiday decorations, which may be turned off in non-CPKC areas. Each train is approximately 1,000 feet long.
The initiative raises funds and collects food for local food banks along CPKC’s network, aiming to support families facing food insecurity. Since its launch in 1999, the Holiday Train has raised more than $26 million and collected over 5.4 million pounds of food across both countries.
CPKC is the first and only single-line transnational railway linking Canada, the United States and México.
