Manitoba Offers Third Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine to All Health Care Workers, Viral Vector Vaccine Recipients

Manitoba is offering a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine to healthcare workers and volunteers and those who received a viral vector vaccine provided six months have passed after the second dose.

The province says it is recommending a third dose for health-care workers, including volunteers, who have direct contact with patients, residents and clients. This recommendation also includes all First Nation health-care workers, such as traditional healers and knowledge keepers.

There are approximately 50,000 health-care workers in Manitoba.

Health-care personnel can receive their third dose at any clinic or site where the COVID vaccine is offered including available occupational health clinics.

Manitobans who have only received a viral vector vaccine, such as two doses of AstraZeneca or a single dose of the Janssen vaccine can also receive a dose of mRNA vaccine at any vaccine clinic or participating medical clinic or pharmacy with an mRNA vaccine.

As per the news release, there are about 6,800 people who have received only viral vector vaccines.

The province says the third dose is voluntary and health-care workers who do wish to be vaccinated with an additonal dose are still considered to be fully immunized.

A prescription is not required to receive a third dose as long as they meet the eligibility time period.
