Expect an emergency alert on your wireless phone this Wednesday, as there will be an Alberta-wide test of the emergency alerting system.
On March 1 at 1:55 p.m., the Alberta Emergency Alert system will issue an emergency alert test across the province.
Alerts will be issued on television, radio, websites, social media, the Alberta Emergency Alert mobile app, and directly to Albertans via compatible cellphones.
For the cellphone alert to function correctly, the receiving phone must be on the LTE 4G network or connected to Wi-Fi and compatible with the alert system. If the cellphone is set to silent mode, the emergency alert will only display on the screen without playing the alert tone.
During the test, you will hear an emergency alert sound, beginning with the alert tone known as the Canadian Alert Attention Signal.
A provincial test of the emergency alerting system will happen Wednesday, March 1 at 1:55pm. Check your phone compatibility at https://t.co/AwX25B8q5C Visit https://t.co/OC3LqvDsqm for tips to help you and your family become more prepared. Follow @ABPublicSafety to stay informed.

Alberta is conducting an emergency alert outside of the usual twice-yearly nationwide tests in May and November. The alert is timed to coincide with the beginning of wildfire season on March 1.
The wildfire season runs from March 1 to Oct. 31 in Alberta.
Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services Mike Ellis said in a news release, “Our top priority is saving lives and protecting Albertans. That’s why I encourage you to download the Alberta Emergency Alert app to receive messages about life-threatening emergencies, such as tornadoes, wildfires, floods or Amber Alerts, directly to your cellphones. When faced with an emergency, always follow instructions from authorities and check for updated alerts.”
