New Westminster’s Hyack Festival is seeing the season off right and welcoming autumn with grand fireworks at the Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival on Saturday, August 23. Running from 3 to 9:30 pm, the event promises an immersive experience for all ages, set against the scenic Fraser River.
The day kicks off at 3:00 pm with the Opening Ceremony, followed by a lineup of performances ranging from a 1970s tribute by Discobaby to the brassy rhythms of the Big Bone Brass Band. Other highlights include Miss Shauna, Liquid Blue, and Marlin Ramazzini, with DJ Gab closing the night alongside the much-anticipated fireworks at 9:00 pm.
Visitors can explore an extensive artisan market featuring names like Peach Blossom Dream, Churi, Skunk Bath and Soap, and Manzar Jewelers, alongside a variety of exhibitors including BCLC, Work BC, and Tourism New West.
Food lovers are well catered to with stalls serving everything from Lee’s Donuts and Japadog to Old Country Pierogi and Creme Brulee To Go, ensuring flavors for every taste.
Families will find a dedicated Kids’ Zone open from 3 to 8 pm, offering face painting, Lego, balloon animals, and a special 6:00 pm storytime at Kinder Books. Carnival games and tattoos will keep the younger crowd entertained before the fireworks light up the sky.
The festival not only showcases local talent and businesses but also provides a gathering space for the community to celebrate summer together. With its mix of sights, sounds, and flavors, the New Westminster Quay promises to be the place to be on August 23.
Of course, the fireworks show will be the real star of this event. Make sure to get here by 8:30 p.m. for the stunning fireworks, which is scheduled to start at 9 pm. There will be several viewing locations, including Front Street Parkade, Westminster Pier Park, Port Royal Park and Brownsville Bar Park in Surrey.
