The festival, originally a gathering of music and arts enthusiasts in Re’im, Israel, turned tragic when Hamas militants launched a deadly assault, killing 1,200 people, including 370 festival attendees—four of whom were Canadian—and abducting over 250 individuals.
The exhibition aims to provide visitors with a full sensory experience, guiding them through a re-creation of the festival grounds. It will feature real artifacts, survivor testimonies, and firsthand footage of the attack. Charred vehicles, bullet-riddled structures, and personal belongings left behind will serve as stark reminders of the devastation.
“The story of the Nova Music Festival is one of strength, survival, love and community,” said Jesse Brown, Lead Canadian Representative, Nova Exhibition in a news release. “This exhibit is to honour and remember the victims while also hearing the heart-wrenching stories of survivors who remind the world that we will dance again.”
Toronto, home to one of the world’s largest Jewish populations outside Israel, is expected to provide a significant platform for the exhibition’s message against hate and violence. Net proceeds will support survivors and families affected by the attack.
The exhibition, directed by Reut Feingold, has previously been displayed in Tel Aviv, New York, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, and Miami, drawing over 300,000 visitors. Details on the Toronto venue will be announced at a later date.
