U.S. Pauses Tariffs on USMCA Goods Until April 2

U.S. President Donald Trump has postponed tariffs on products covered under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) for nearly a month according to Reuters.

The tariff exemptions apply only to goods compliant with the USMCA, the trade deal established during Trump’s first term.

Per CNBC, tariffs will still affect approximately 50% of Mexican imports and over 60% of Canadian goods entering the U.S.

On a recent call between Justin Trudeau and the U.S. President, Trump became frustrated over Canada’s dairy sector protections, arguing that they contribute to unfair trade practices. The source also claimed that during discussions, the U.S. president used profanity, while Trudeau did not, reports CBC’s Katie Simpson.

Trump continued his attacks on Trudeau stating on Truth Social, “Believe it or not, despite the terrible job he’s done for Canada, I think that Justin Trudeau is using the Tariff problem, which he has largely caused, in order to run again for Prime Minister. So much fun to watch!”

The pause on tariffs will remain in effect until April 2.

On Wednesday, Trump paused auto tariffs for Canada and Mexico, citing concerns from U.S. automakers, including Stellantis, Ford, and General Motors.
