Are you a fan of peonies? Of course, you are! Who isn’t?
Peonies are the stars of the show at Beyond Roots Flower Farm, located in the Blind-Man Valley between Sylvan Lake and Bentley.
These perennial plants bloom each year briefly but remain a popular choice. The farm grows 30 varieties of peonies, available through subscription or on designated pick-your-own days.
Visitors can walk through the peony beds and pick up to five stems for $30. The farm also provides space for picnics under mature trees, allowing guests to spend time on-site with family or friends. Visits are by appointment only, and booking is available online.
If you’re not in the area during peony season (from Late June to July), you can still get your peony fix by shopping their online store for peony plants. These hardy perennials require minimal care once established and can thrive for over 50 years.
Beyond Roots Flower Farm is currently expanding its flower farm, with peonies as its primary focus for now. They deliver to Red Deer, Sylvan Lake, Blackfalds and Lacombe. They also ship bare-root peony plants to British Columbia, the rest of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
If you’re coming from Alberta’s big cities, consider combining your trip with a beach day at Sylvan Lake or Gull Lake. For more nature fun, you can head to Kraay Family Farm (corn maze and huge sunflower farm) or explore Lacombe.
