Pumpkins After Dark YEG is bigger and better this year. In all, the trail of illuminated pumpkin carving displays takes a bit longer to complete than it did last year. And this is because along with the pumpkins, the trails are now also lined with a few extra displays.
Borden Park is truly a perfect setting for a Halloween event like Pumpkins After Dark in Edmonton; as you wander the trails and enjoy the spooky setting, the park’s mature and towering trees, many of which are also lit up, only add to the festive vibes.

For the entire month of October, Borden Park will transform through glowing pumpkins once the sun has set. The family-friendly event has something for all ages to enjoy from the time you enter, pass by the small vendor village, grab a cozy drink, and embark onto the Pumpkins After Dark trail.

Pre-Pumpkins After Dark
Upon entry, you’ll be greeted with places to grab fall-themed drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, as well as snacks like popcorn, chocolate, or candy!
For the adults, there are Alley Kat Pumpkin Spiced Ales, or hot chocolate spiked with festive liqueurs. Kids can cozy up with tea or hot chocolate.

The merch table will have numerous fun Halloween glow items that will get little ones excited for the upcoming displays, and which could also be brought trick-or-treating.
The displays begin before you get onto the official trail and offer numerous selfie stations that cover all types of Halloween themes: fun and light-hearted, totally creepy, or all-pumpkins.

Plus, Pumpkins After Dark have two different experiences to add to the fun: the Monster Maze, and the virtual reality ride. When you reserve tickets, there are ways to save by combining admission to the maze with Pumpkins After Dark.
The fun starts before entering the pumpkin trail, with a large central concourse for extra Halloween fun.
Then, head into the Dark!
Pumpkins After Dark Trails
Depending on the amount of people on the trail, or how much time is spent admiring these incredible carvings and more, the Pumpkins After Dark experience lasts anywhere from 30-90 minutes. Take your time, as each pumpkin carving display has more to reveal the longer you look at each.

The trail leads into different themed areas like the cemetery, Storybook Lane with both creepy and friendly charcters, the rock n’ roll and Under 27 trail, the line of famous movie monsters, and so much more.
There are a few notable additions to the trails this year like actors in costume helping to add to the experience, and a lot more than the pumpkin displays. A variety of props, those dedicated actors, the lighting, music, and more, all make one forget they are in the middle of the city.
Pumpkins After Dark may not be advertised as an immersive Halloween experience, but it is easy to escape into the Halloween-town-atmosphere once on the illuminated trails.
