Did you know that there is a waterfall in Southern Alberta that resembles Niagara Falls? With a little imagination, you can see the ‘three falls that form the Niagara Falls‘ in Alberta.
Lundbreck Falls is located in the Lundbreck Falls Provincial Recreation Area.
It is a beautiful location any time of year and does not require a long hike as some Alberta views do – these views are easy to access, convenient, and can be enjoyed from a variety of locations.
The waterfall can be a rest stop on your road/day trip, a weekend destination, and a fishing getaway. The Crowsnest River offers some of the best trout fishing areas in all of North America.
If you come to the waterfall for a picnic or roadside rest, you have the option to choose between either side of the river.
If you want to follow the trails from the day use area, the paths follow the river under the highway.
The Lundbreck Falls PRA day use and camping areas are close to the Crowsnest Highway; however, all you will hear during your visit or stay are the rushing sounds of Lundbreck Falls as they break up the Crowsnest River.
The waterfalls are a great visit any time of the year.
Visit during spring or after rainfall for thunderous falls ( three falls may merge into one).
You can see icicles of various shapes framing the almost frozen falls in winter.
Autumn creates great photo opportunities with the lush forests framing the falls with hues of delicate red and yellow.
Summer and fall seasons with no rain may cause the middle falls to disappear revealing the rocky outcrop.
Lundbreck Falls is a short drive from the city of Lethbridge, where you’ll find several attractions worth the stop or the drive. There are several things to do around the city between annual events like Whoop-Up Days or the Winter Lights Festival.
Follow the Crowsnest Highway in the opposite direction to the east to visit the nearby Frank Slide Interpretive Centre, or the Leitch Collieries Historic Site. There are plenty of activities in the town of Crowsnest Pass too. Do not forget to take a guided underground tour of the Bellevue Coal Mine.
For a perfect scenic drive, follow Cowboy Trail to the Falls from Calgary and beyond.
