Reopening of BC Parks & Campsites
Provincial parks, recreation sites and trails reopening
British Columbians are requested to visit parks close to their home, maintain safe physical distances of at least two meters and choose low risk activities while using trails, and avoid travelling to small communities. Some parks will remain closed due to potential challenges with high numbers of anticipated visitors. Some facilities such as playgrounds, halls and picnic shelters will remain closed.
Provincial parks that attract large crowds will only reopen once it can be done safely.
May 14:
- The Province will reopen most provincial parks and recreation sites and trails for day use on May 14, 2020.
- The opening will include access to beaches, trails, picnic areas, washroom facilities and boat launches.
June 1:
- Reopening additional day-use facilities will reopen
- Campgrounds and recreation sites will reopen
According to BC Parks, there will be some changes to the way some services are provided and limits may be placed on the number of guests permitted in campgrounds.
Hot springs and backcountry communal cabins will remain closed.
Reservations For 2020 Camping Season
The Discover Camping reservation system will be available from May 25, 2020.
- Campsite reservations start on May 25, 2020 with reduced availability.
- Existing reservations that are affected due to COVID-19 restrictions will be automatically cancelled and refunded.
- Those with existing reservations after June 1 who would like to cancel them will have until June 15 to cancel without facing cancellation fees.
- Reservations cancelled after June 15, as well as new reservations made after May 25, will face the usual cancellation and transaction fees.
