The National Capital Commission has announced that parks and trails will remain open for exercise and local use during Ontario’s stay at home order effective Jan 14th.

The NCC says that it important for people to get outdoors to exercise during the pandemic but is asking residents to use NCC assets closest to their homes.

The NCC is also proceeding with preparations for the safe opening of the Rideau Canal Skateway for exercise purposes only.

As per Ontario, some outdoor recreation spaces can open with conditions, including parks, baseball diamonds, batting cages, sports fields, skate parks, horse-racing facilities, trails, toboggan hills, ice rinks and shooting ranges.

Food and beverage concession stands, rentals and fire pits will be closed when Rideau Canal Skateway opens.

When the skateway opens, the NCC will add sanitization stands as well as bi-directional staircases, where possible and masks will be required by all users.

A section of the Queen Elizabeth Driveway will open for active use only, 7 days a week, from 9 am to 5 pm, but more information is yet to be announced.

The NCC Bistro at Remic Rapids Park will not open during the state of emergency.
