Lake Huron’s southern shores and the south Georgian Bay are as much a winter destination as they are summer vacation spots. A great deal of this southern Ontario shoreline is covered by Wasaga Beach Provincial Park, the longest freshwater beach in the world. This is also when the Provincial Park’s winter trails open! The series of trails provides three feature activities to enjoy around Wasaga Beach in the winter, specifically the forested parkland east of the beach. From the shoreline to the dunes and the forests, Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is a beautiful place to be when temperatures dip below zero and the snow hits the treetops.

All of the park’s winter trails, including those for skiing, snowshoeing, and fat biking, are in the park’s central area to the east of Beach Area 3. This densely forested parkland area has 10 different trails in total, many of which interconnect.
- The High Dunes Trail is a popular route for more experienced cross-country skiiers and has access to the other expert-rated trails: Deer Run, and Monument Hill.
- The novice or easier trails in the park, the Blueberry and Rabbit Run Trails, still combine to create a lengthy 6.7km.

Snowshoeing at Wasaga Beach
The snowshoe trails begin at the same trailhead as the ski trails but will branch off in a different direction. Snowshoe rentals are available at the Nordic Centre!
- The entire snowshoe route would create a full day on the trails with over 10km of set paths.
- The trails start with the beginner snowshoe route, an out-and-back trail on the west side of the park.
- This reaches access for the intermediate and expert snowshoe trails. Both trails create loop just over 2km.
If there is no snow: Even in freezing winters without snow, the shoreline has spectacular photo opportunities with incredible ice formations, The trails offer amazing winter wildlife viewing from deers and rabbits to chickadees, cardinals, and eagles.
Wasaga’s Fat Tire Bike Trails
Lastly, these trails east of the beaches are also open to fat biking, or winter biking. Explore some of the more rugged terrain of the park with three different fat biking route options:
- The 1.5km beginner trail starts at the same main trailhead as the ski and snowshoe trails.
- From here, the beginner trail connects to a 1.9km intermediate biking loop. And finally, that loop provides access to the 2.5km advanced biking loop. Altogether, Wasaga Beach Provincial Park has 6km of fat tire biking trails.
