Canada will host the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit in Kananaskis from June 15 to 17, marking the 50th anniversary of the first G7 meeting.
The G7 consists of Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan, along with the European Union as a participant. The leaders of the G7, including U.S. President Donald Trump, will meet in Alberta to discuss global economic policies, international security, and other key issues.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is implementing strict security measures to ensure the safety of participants, residents, and visitors.
Controlled Access Zone Implementation

Credit: RCMP/ Map of the Kananaskis area where the controlled access zone will be established.
A Controlled Access Zone (CAZ) will be in place from June 10 to 18, restricting entry around key Summit venues. Accreditation will be required for access, and businesses will receive guidance to streamline the process.
The CAZ is outlined as follows:
- Northern boundary: No unauthorized vehicles past Mount Lorette Ponds, extending south along Highway 40.
- Western boundary: Heavy security along Highway 742; eastern slope hiking trails closed, while trails west of Highway 742 remain open.
- Southern boundary: No unauthorized vehicles beyond the Galatea Creek parking lot, extending north along Highway 40.
- Eastern boundary: Extends along the eastern ridgeline of Kananaskis Valley.
Two access points will be established along Highway 40. The north vehicle screening area will be 18 km south of the Highway 40 and Highway 1 junction, near Mount Lorette Ponds. The south screening area will be 10 km further south. Only authorized personnel, residents, and businesses will be permitted entry.
Trail and Venue Closures
Several locations will be temporarily closed, including:
- March 10 – July 31: Troll Falls Day Use Area.
- April 22 – July 30: Nakiska Ski Area.
