A familiar Calgary venue is taking on a new look this summer, blending sport with pop culture in an unusual way.
Spruce Meadows is partnering with Mattel for a three-day event, Barbie x Spruce Meadows, running June 12 to 14 during the National Tournament.
The collaboration brings together show jumping and a series of themed activities built around the Barbie brand. Organizers say the pairing reflects a shared focus on opportunity and representation, noting that show jumping is one of the few sports where men and women compete under the same rules.
Across the weekend, visitors can expect a mix of sport and entertainment. About 10,000 co-branded bandanas will be handed out, while the grounds will feature photo installations, including a Barbie-themed box and pink horse displays. An outdoor screening of Barbie The Movie is scheduled for the evening of June 12.
Saturday centres on the ChangemakeHER Forum, a ticketed event bringing together speakers from sport, business, media and entertainment for discussions on leadership. The day also includes access to premium viewing of the RBC Grand Prix.
Each day carries its own lineup. Alongside international show jumping competitions, there will be live music, shopping, children’s programming and animal attractions. Concerts by Dallas Smith on Friday and Maren Morris on Saturday require additional tickets.
Additional features include a roller rink, interactive zones and family-focused activities spread across Spruce Meadows.
Tickets are only $15 per person.
