Malahat SkyWalk in Malahat, B.C., has announced the launch of The Overhang, a glass cube experience attached to the top of its spiral tower. The new feature is expected to open during the Victoria Day long weekend, May 16–18, 2026.
According to the news release, the structure will be the first enclosed glass cube in the world mounted to the top of a spiral tower and the only experience of its kind in Canada.

The Overhang will extend 2.13 metres (7 feet) beyond the edge of the SkyWalk’s 10-storey Spiral Tower, placing visitors 250 metres (820 feet) above sea level. The glass structure is designed to create the sensation of floating in mid-air, offering uninterrupted views of Vancouver Island’s coastal rainforest, Pacific waters and surrounding mountain ranges.
The cube will measure 2.13 metres on all sides and be supported by a steel frame with five panels of structural glass. The walls and ceiling will be 36 millimetres (1.42 inches) thick, while the floor will measure 60 millimetres (2.36 inches). Each panel will consist of multiple layers of bonded glass—three layers for the walls and five for the base.
Nathan Bird, general manager of Malahat SkyWalk, said the launch comes during a milestone year for the attraction as it prepares to mark its fifth anniversary and welcome its one millionth visitor.
The Overhang was developed by Aspect, a structural engineering firm based in British Columbia that also designed the corkscrew-style Spiral Tower. The new structure has been designed to be fully accessible so all visitors can take part.
