The year is almost coming to an end with many COVID-19 restrictions still in place and it’s incredibly boring. You’ve tried to keep your kids entertained for as long as you can, but now you’ve run out of activities and you simply don’t know what to do. Then, visit the “Toon Tunnel”, a labour of love by Andrea Baillargeon.
Andrea Baillargeon is a local artist who undertook the task of making one of the pedestrian tunnels to Nose Hill Park more family-friendly.
She has covered the walls of the tunnel with 200 colourful characters crossing 100 years of entertainment. The smiles and joy it brings to children and adults alike has made the many hours of labour worth it for Andrea. Earlier this year, Andrea Baillargeon raised thousands of dollars for the Calgary Foodbank with #CartoonsForACause.
The tunnel is located at the north end of Egerts park, under 14th Street into Nose Hill park and the best part about going there is that you don’t have to pay anything!
Just take your kids to the tunnel where they can meet all their favourite cartoon characters and let their imagination run wild. They can play and talk to all the characters for as long as their tiny heart desires.
All the characters in the Toon Tunnel are drawn in life-size proportions with bright coloured chalk and block pastel. The walls are covered with every single cartoon character you can possibly think of like furry, red Elmo, Boo-Boo Bear, Maggie from the Simpsons, Dino, Spongebob, bugs bunny, Elsa, Stewie, Pooh, Eeyore and everyone’s favourite bird Tweety. We could go on and on, but we think by now you’ve understood that it literally has every single character!
Your kids will certainly have the time of their lives and will have the biggest smiles plastered on their cute little faces.
