Ontario’s annual list of baby names offers a snapshot of how naming preferences continue to evolve, while also showing which choices remain firmly rooted year after year.
Olivia and Noah once again led the rankings as the most commonly registered baby names in the province. Olivia held the top position for girls for the 16th consecutive year, extending a long-running trend. Noah remained the most popular name for boys, marking its sixth straight year at number one.
The top 10 girls’ names were Olivia, Charlotte, Sophia, Amelia, Emma, Ava, Maya, Sofia, Mia, and Isla. Maya broke into the top 10, joining a list that otherwise features several long-standing favourites.
Among boys, the most frequently chosen names were Noah, Liam, Theodore, Oliver, Jack, Henry, Benjamin, Lucas, Muhammad, and Leo. Muhammad entered the top 10 this year, reflecting its growing presence among newly registered names in Ontario.

Stephen Crawford, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement, said the province is focused on making early administrative steps easier for families welcoming a newborn. He pointed to ServiceOntario’s 5-in-1 Newborn Bundle as a way to reduce paperwork during a busy period for parents.
The online service allows families to apply for a birth certificate, Social Insurance Number, Canada Child Benefits — including the Ontario Child Benefit — and the Education Savings Referral service through a single application. Births must be registered within 30 days to access these documents.
ServiceOntario reports that about 135,000 births are registered each year using the 5-in-1 service, which was the first program of its kind in Canada. The province has also expanded online options, including instant renewal of child health cards for eligible children.
