As one of the Georgian Bay’s premier summer destinations, the town of Blue Mountains offers something for everyone of all ages! There are tons of opportunities for adventures, thrills, and outdoor recreation. And even if the adventurous sides of the Mountain don’t appeal to you, the more relaxed sides might!
The Blue Mountain Village is home to great shopping and dining, two spas, and a private beach for resort guests. Beyond the village are the Huron shorelines, which you can explore, too.
Blue Mountains Resort Attractions
The Blue Mountain Resort has adventure opportunities for different ages and thrill-seeking levels. These include the park’s bike and hiking trails, aerial adventures, and a few notable rides.
- The various aerial park or climbing attractions at Blue Mountain include the newly expanded and upgraded Canopy Climb Adventure, the rock-climbing experiences at the Climbing Centre, or the Timber Ropes Challenge course.
- The rides on the Blue Mountain include the Mountain Coaster, the Wind Rider Zipline, or the Open Air Gondola.
- Smaller attractions include mini golf and a putting course, the chutes and loops ball run, segway tours, and a bike park for smaller kids.
Best Blue Mountain Trails or Hikes
Around the Blue Mountain area are options for hiking and biking trails with paid access, and with free access. Those within the Blue Mountain Park are accessible with the Explore All Day Tickets.
- The Blue Mountain park has cycling trails for downhill biking or mountain biking, as well as trails suited to more of a cross-country cycling experience.
- Blue Mountain’s hiking trails cover over 25km along with simple or challenging ways to get to the top of the mountain and more trails.
- Scenic Caves Nature Adventures are outside of the Blue Mountain Park. These Nature Adventures cover 15km of trails and cross a 420ft suspension bridge. Other attractions on top of the cave hikes include mini golf, train rides for small children, and picnic areas. Finish the day with a meal from Trail’s End Grill.
- The Georgian Trail makes its way along the Lake Huron Shores from Thornbury to Craigleith, and then to Collingwood. Explore Grey County from the even trail, shaded and treed-in areas, and in some parts, get excellent views of Lake Huron. Thornbury to Collingwood is a total of 21km one-way. And, this trail has no admission fee!
Water & Beach Fun
Craigleith is the shoreline community north of the Blue Mountains Village and is home to two beaches!
- Northwinds Beach is right in town with access from the Georgian Trail, as well as a spacious parking area. The area offers amenities like washrooms, picnic tables, and boat rentals.
- Grab a kayak or paddleboard from Blue Surf, which is located right on the beach, where you’ll launch the boats.
- A short drive west of town and still a short drive from the Blue Mountain Village is the beach at Craigleith Provincial Park. The area is not suited to swimming as it is rocky, but the park makes for a scenic waterside picnic or hike.
Wineries, Drinks, & Summer Dining
The Blue Mountain resort area and village are packed with a wonderful variety of places to eat. This includes casual takeout and cafes, more upscale grills and bistros, family restaurants, and sweet treats. The area is also home to a number of local cider houses or wineries and distilleries.
- Blue Mountain Adventure Tours provides guided shuttle tours of all the area’s great wineries, distilleries, and cideries. A few notable spots to visit individually include Georgian Hills Vineyards, Spy Cider House and Distillery, Grey & Gold Cider, or Windswept Cider.
- The resort area has an array of great eateries. Get your fix for sweets from places like Chill Seeker, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Royal Majesty Espresso Bar Bakery, or the Happy Valley Candy Co.
- Also around the resort area are many breakfast spots, grab-and-go locations, pubs with elevated food menus, pizza places, taco places, and much more!

More Unique Blue Mountain Attractions
There is so much to do in the area! Each of these unique attractions in the area will appeal to different interests and vacation goals.
- Visit the Craigleith Heritage Depot for a variety of opportunities to learn about local culture and arts. The Heritage Depot is home to a museum, gallery, and public library. The Craigleith Heritage Depot host regular programming and workshops too including a Trivia Night, History Sharing drop-ins, Kids’ Storytime, or cooking classes.
- There are two separate spas at the Blue Mountain Village: Iwa Spa, or Scandinave Spa. These offer the ultimate in mountain relaxation for your summer vacation!
- Get a taste of local goods like foods, art, produce, clothing, gifts, and more, from the nearby Collingwood Farmers’ Market, or Thornbury Farmers’ Market. Both are open from May to October.
Summer Events in the Blue Mountains Area
- June in the Blue Mountain Village will offer the TD Salsa at Blue festival, dedicated to showcasing Latin culture, followed by a large Canada Day celebration each July 1st.
- More single-day or weekend celebrations in the Village include Indie Soul Jam (July), Country Fest, Reggae on the Mountain, Rock Fest, Opera under the Stars, Blues at Blue, and Summer Sundown.
- The village’s Midweek Music Series is a summer-long series with live music from the Subaru Stage each Monday to Thursday. From the same stage will come Movies Under the Star, also a summer-long event in July and August. Symphony on the Pond is another chance to catch a different type of music live throughout the summer in the Village.
