Vancouver is bringing fireworks back to English Bay this summer, but in a different format than many residents may be used to.

Honda Celebration of Lights/Govt. of BC
The City of Vancouver has announced Summer Lights in English Bay, a free, one-night fireworks celebration set for Friday, July 31, 2026, at English Bay Beach Park.
The event will be open to residents and visitors, with no tickets or registration required.
The celebration is being presented by the City of Vancouver and produced by BrandLive, with support from the Vancouver Park Board. It will take place on the Friday of the BC Day long weekend and will also mark the start of Vancouver Pride Week’s closing weekend.
Mayor Ken Sim said the event is meant to bring people together in one of the city’s best-known public spaces.
“Summer Lights in English Bay is about bringing people together for a spectacular evening in one of Vancouver’s most iconic settings,” Sim said in a news release.
The City says public viewing areas will be available at English Bay. Food trucks are also planned for the site, and visitors will have opportunities to support nearby restaurants, cafés and businesses in the West End before and after the fireworks.
The new event was developed after Council direction following news that the Honda Celebration of Light would not go ahead in 2026. The Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society said it had made the difficult decision to cancel the event indefinitely after months of outreach to governments and the business community.
Public safety planning is underway. The City and BrandLive are working with partners including the Vancouver Police Department and Vancouver Fire Rescue Services.
More details, including fireworks timing, viewing areas, road closures, transit advice, accessibility information and safety reminders, will be shared in the coming weeks.
