Parks Canada will open PEI National Park’s entry gates, pristine beaches, various day-use areas, trails, and well-maintained washroom facilities on June 5. The Greenwich Interpretation Centre welcomes visitors daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

New for 2024:

    • Stanhope Beach has been revitalized with a new beach complex that includes a boardwalk with accessible ramps, a beach toy library, and enhanced accessibility through mobility mats and beach wheelchairs.
    • Oceanview Lookout Platform: Enjoy breathtaking views and learn about the island’s coastal ecosystem through new interpretive panels.
    • The Gulf Shore Way Trail has been extended to Robinsons Island, offering a scenic route fully separated from motor vehicles for hikers and cyclists.

Camping enthusiasts can mark June 11 on their calendars as the first night to set camp at Cavendish and Stanhope campgrounds. Highlights for campers this year include:

  • A new tents-only loop at Cavendish Campground, promoting a closer connection with nature and featuring modern, accessible, and gender-neutral facilities.
  • Two new Bunkie accommodations at both Cavendish and Stanhope campgrounds provide comfortable bedding and a hassle-free camping experience.

Cultural and Heritage Sites:

  • Green Gables Heritage Place is open daily, with special programs starting July 1. This year is particularly significant as it marks the 150th birthday of L.M. Montgomery, the revered Canadian author.
  • Skmaqn—Port-la-Joye—Fort Amherst National Historic Site also beckons visitors with new multimedia and interpretive displays that delve into the rich tapestry of Indigenous, French, Acadian, and British heritage.

Accessibility services, including beach and buoyant wheelchairs, and off-road trailrider wheelchairs, are available at various locations. Reservations can be made by calling 902-566-7050.

Seasonal entry passes to PEI National Park are available at discounted rates until June 15. Automated entry gates have been installed at Brackley and Cavendish entry points for pass holders. Dogs are not allowed on park beaches from April 1 to October 15, but are welcome in campgrounds, day-use areas, and trails.

Visitors are reminded of the full sand dune closure that is in effect to protect these fragile environments.

Parks Canada has recently taken stewardship of 135 acres in the French River-Park Corner area, enhancing its commitment to environmental preservation. Educational efforts on sand dune conservation will be a priority in this newly administered land.

Parks Canada is encouraging visitors to download the 2024 Visitor Guide and Trail Guide to reduce paper waste. The Parks Canada App provides essential information for planning visits.
