Provinces across the country are easing COVID-19 restrictions.
Here is the list of what is open now across Canada.
Physical distancing measures are in place. All Canadians are urged to avoid unnecessary travel.
British Columbia
All health orders are in place. British Columbia has not announced a plan for reopening yet.
- Essential Sevices in British Columbia (Many retail stores like hardware stores, garden centres are part of essential services).
Alberta
What is open:
- Access to boat launches.
- Vehicle access to parking lots and staging areas on public land and parks will open.
- Golf courses with restrictions including keeping clubhouses and pro shops closed.
- Alberta Health Services will resume some scheduled, non-urgent surgeries.
- Dental and other health-care workers such as physiotherapists, speech-language pathologists, respiratory therapists, audiologists, social workers, occupational therapists, dietitians and more will be allowed to resume services starting May 4, as long as they are following approved guidelines set by their professional colleges.
Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan’s reopening plan won’t start in two communities with COVID-19 outbreaks.
- The size restrictions of public and private gatherings will remain at a maximum of 10 people.
- Re-opening of medical services restricted under the current public health order.
- Resumption of low-risk outdoor recreational activities, including fishing and boat launches.
- Public access to medical services will be reinstated, including access to dentistry, optometry, physical therapy, opticians, podiatry, occupational therapy and chiropractic treatment.
Manitoba
Unlike other provinces, Manitoba did not close provincial parks (only park facilities were closed). All those who are entering from another province or territory must self-isolate for 14 days. There is also a travel ban to Northern Manitoba.
- Non-urgent surgery and diagnostic procedures
- Therapeutic and medical services;
- Retail businesses;
- Restaurants – patio/walk-up services only.
- Hair salons
- Museums, galleries and libraries;
- Seasonal day camps
- Outdoor recreation and campgrounds.
Ontario
Ontario Allowing Some Businesses to Reopen From May 4.
- Garden centres and nurseries from May 8
- Lawn care and landscaping;
- Additional essential construction projects
- Automatic and self-serve car washes;
- Auto dealerships, open by appointment only;
- Hardware stores from May 9
Quebec
Quebec to Reopen Retail, Construction and Manufacturing Businesses
- Cottage Country to Reopen: The Antoine-Labelle, Argenteuil, Pays-d’en-Haut and Laurentides regional county municipalities, The territories of the Autray, Joliette, Matawinie and Montcalm regional county municipalities, The territories of the Bellechasse, L’Islet and Montmagny regional county municipalities, Rouyn-Noranda for the Abitibi-Témiscamingue health region.
- Retail stores with an exterior entrance except those in Greater Montreal region. Stores in shopping malls will remain closed, unless they can be accessed from outside.
New Brunswick
All those who are entering from another province or territory must self-isolate for 14 days.
- Households can spend time with one other household if both households agree. The selection made is not interchangeable.
- If all physical distancing and safety measures are in place, golf courses and driving ranges are allowed to open.
- Recreational fishing and hunting
- With physical distancing, people can enjoy the outdoors including parks and beaches.
- Co-workers or neighbours can carpool if physical distancing measures are maintained by transporting the passenger in the backseat.
- Post-secondary education: Students requiring access to campus to fulfill their course requirements will be able to do so.
- Outdoor religious services: As an alternative to online worship, religious organizations can hold outdoor services if parishioners stay in their vehicles that are two metres apart.
Nova Scotia
All those who are entering from another province or territory must self-isolate for 14 days.
- Provincial and municipal parks, but playground equipment will continue to be off limits
- Trails are allowed to open
- People are allowed to use and visit community gardens
- Garden centres, nurseries and similar businesses can open
- Sportfishing is permitted from shore or boat, but fishing derbies are not allowed
- People can attend boating, yacht or sailing clubs for the purpose of preparing boats for use
- Golf driving ranges can open, including those at golf clubs, but the course must remain closed; golf clubs can perform necessary maintenance and preparations for opening
- People can use their cottages. Use is restricted to one household unit at a time, travel must be directly to the cottage and back, and travelling back and forth frequently from cottage and primary residence is discouraged
- Provincial and private campgrounds remain closed, but they can perform necessary maintenance and preparations for opening. An exception is recreational vehicles parked year-round at private campgrounds, which can be used but must follow the same rules as cottages
- Drive-in religious services will be allowed, as long as people stay in their cars, they are parked two metres apart and there are no interactions between people in cars or between people in cars and others
Prince Edward Island
P.E.I. Reopening Plan – “Renew PEI, Together”
All those who are entering from another province or territory must self-isolate for 14 days.
- Recreational activities including, for example:Walking, hiking, cycling and motorcycling
- Golf courses, driving ranges and shooting ranges
- Current PEI residents going to their own seasonal properties on PEI
- Recreational fishing, including inland and tidal water fisheries and all recreational shellfish
- Marinas and yacht clubs
- Select outdoor and construction services: The following services will now be able to serve the public: landscaping, outdoor construction (e.g. decks, roofing, fencing), new construction including roads, and indoor projects as per physical distancing guidelines, watershed clean-up and stream maintenance, pool maintenance and construction, outdoor photography, etc.
- Child care services
- Priority non-urgent health care services
Newfoundland and Labrador
All those who are entering from another province or territory must self-isolate for 14 days.
- Households can “double bubble” with one other household if both agree.
