Spot that elusive deer darting across the snow-blanketed forest, fish in the frozen lake, zoom on your snowmobile, glide on those groomed trails, and enjoy hearing the crunching of snow underneath your snowshoes as you explore Saskatchewan’s Parks.

 

From snowmobiling to skiing to fishing to winter camping, Saskatchewan’s provincial parks are the perfect destinations for winter outdoor adventures.

1. Lac La Ronge Provincial Park

Featuring 62 km of groomed classic and freestyle trails, the Lac La Ronge Provincial Park is a popular winter destination. The trails meander and wind through the Boreal Forest and over the Pre-Cambrian rock outcrops. Make use of 5 km of lighted trails at the Nut Point Trail to enjoy night skiing. This is a great trail to enjoy skiing with your family.

For a more challenging trail, check out the Don Allen Ski Trails. This is a 14 km groomed cross country ski trail with warm-up shelters and stunning views.

Snowshoeing is another popular activity to do here. Rent a pair of snowshoes and hike the trails here. Is a snowshoe too slow for you? Zoom the trails on a snowmobile! Check out the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association site for conditions and maps.

Anglers can enjoy the tranquil setting while targeting Northern Pike, Yellow Perch, and Burbot.

2. Meadow Lake Provincial Park

An ideal winter destination due to its location in the northwest corner of Saskatchewan, Meadow Lake Provincial Park attracts visitors with its groomed trails for snowmobiling and skiing. There are over 150 km of snowmobile trails, 81 km of which are groomed to cater novice, intermediate, and expert skiers. The snowmobile trails are maintained by the Goodsoil Ridge Riders Snowmobile Club. The trailhead is located on the north shore of Kimball Lake. About 11 km from Kimball Lake is a chalet that can be used by snowmobilers as a warm-up shelter.

Situated in the Greig Lake area are 20 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails that attract ski enthusiasts to the Haymeadow Trail. Parking is available at the trailhead which is located 0.2 km north of the campground entrance gate.

Snowshoeing is another great way to explore the park’s many trails. Due to the presence of many lakes, ice-fishing is also a very popular activity at Saskatchewan Provincial parks. Catch Lake Trout, Northern Pike, and Yellow Perch here. Details

3. Makwa Lake Provincial Park

A popular destination for anglers, Makwa Lake Provincial Park has six hiking trails that are transformed into cross-country skiing trails in winter. There are trails of varying lengths with the longest being 2.4 km. The trails can be used for experienced or first-time skiers. Maps can be obtained from the Park Office or downloaded from the website.

Anglers can target Burbot, Northern Pike, Walleye, and more at Jumbo Lake, while Exner Lake is a hotspot for Rainbow and Tiger Trout enthusiasts.

Winter camping is available at the Makwa Lake Provincial Park. You will also see a lot of wildlife in the park. Details

4. Narrow Hills Provincial Park

 

This beautiful provincial park has several water bodies that are an angler’s dream. Fishing enthusiasts can find Walleye, Perch, Northern Pike, and an array of Trout species, including Brown, Lake, Brook, Splake, and Tiger Trout. Come winter and visitors on snowmobile zoom the snowmobile trails. The 200 km of groomed trails are part of the Provincial Snowmobile Trail System. Warm-up shelters and gas stations are accessible on these trails. Narrow Hills Scenic Drive is a popular trail with breathtaking views of the boreal forest. Those looking to enjoy a short, but scenic ski trail can check out the 2.5 km trail at the park. Details

5. Chitek Lake Recreation Site

The main activity at the site is centered around water. Renowned for the many fish species, the Site also has several snowmobile trails and skiing trails that entice visitors in winter. There is over 400 km of groomed snowmobile trails that are part of the Provincial Snowmobile Trail. Details

6. Candle Lake Provincial Park

Candle Lake Provincial Park is famous for its beautiful inland beaches. In winter the skiing trails give access to some spectacular viewpoints of the lake and surroundings.

The park provides access to more than 300 km of the provincial Snowmobile route. Ski enthusiasts also frequent the park during the winter months. The Hilltop Ski trail, located on the east side of the lake just north of Minowukaw Lodge, climbs to the top of an open hillside, known as “Old Baldy Lookout” and showcases some spectacular views of the lake and surrounding area.

The park lake has many fish species. Winter offers opportunities to ice fishing enthusiasts to catch Pike, Walleye, Burbot, Whitefish, and Perch. Those looking for a quiet time of skiing can enjoy the cross-country ski trails here. Details

7. Greenwater Lake Provincial Park

A favourite all-seasons park in the province, with plenty of water recreational activities and hiking trails in summer which are converted to skiing and snowmobiling trails in winter. There are more than 25 km of intermediate-level cross-country ski trails that cater to both classic and skate skiing and feature two warm-up shelters. Snowmobilers can enjoy over 100 km of groomed trails (PDF link) and have four warm-up shelters. Snowmobilers and Skiers can rent the winterized Greenwater Cabins.

Grab your sled and enjoy the rush racing down the toboggan hill just west of the golf course.

The lakes are abundant with northern pike, Burdot, perch, and walleye for fishing. For added excitement, nearby Steiestol Lake offers the chance to reel in Rainbow Trout, making it an ideal spot for ice fishing enthusiasts. You can spot several wildlife, including wolves, moose, coyotes, and white-tailed deer, along the trails. In addition, one can enjoy ice skating on the lake at the marina or a game of shinny on the skating rink. Have fun with your family at the toboggan hill near the golf course, or snowshoe the forested trails. Details

8. Wildcat Hill Provincial Park

Wildcat Hill Provincial Park is located at the summit of the Pasqua Hills and was established in 1971 as a protected area for preservation with outdoor recreation opportunities. This wilderness Park is only accessible by snowmobile trail.

9. Danielson Provincial Park

This recreational park located an hour south of Saskatoon sits on the north end of Lake Diefenbaker, a premier locale for all variety of watercraft users and the most popular angling lake in Saskatchewan. Anglers can reel in Northern Pike, Rainbow Trout, and Walleye. Enjoy a relaxing winter stroll along the Great Trail, or the looped Prairie View Nature Trail. Both trails are especially beautiful in the winter months. Details

10. Douglas Provincial Park

Located on Lake Diefenbaker, Douglas offers a multitude of recreational opportunities and access to miles of unspoiled sandy beaches. The trails at the Park are quiet during the winter months. Try hiking the trails here. Skiers looking to unwind can enjoy the tranquil 6 km of scenic trails here.

Anglers can enjoy the stunning surroundings while reeling in Northern Pike, Rainbow Trout, and Walleye for a memorable ice fishing experience.

11. Blackstrap Provincial Park

This all-season park has lots of water-based recreational activities. When the snow fills the ground, enjoy cross-country skiing, hiking, and snowshoeing. The trails are groomed regularly for cross-country skiing. The 5 km long trail starts and ends adjacent to the downhill ski pro shop located on the north side of the mountain.

With species like Pike, Walleye, Burbot, and Perch, Blackstrap Lake is an accessible and rewarding winter fishing destination for anglers of all skill levels. Details

12. Good Spirit Lake Provincial Park

A popular destination among young families due to the shallow, sandy, weed-free bottom of Good Spirit Lake, the Provincial Park also has many hiking, skiing, and snowmobile trails that offer scenic routes. There are 20 km of groomed cross-country ski trails and several groomed snowmobile trails. The snowmobile trails are located throughout the park and connect to several other communities in the area. Here, anglers can pursue Pickerel and Northern Pike in pristine frozen waters. Details

13. Duck Mountain Provincial Park

Duck Mountain is truly a four-season destination, from the warm sun and sand in the summer, to excellent winter fun including cross-country skiing, and ice fishing.

Enjoy ice skating at the skating rink located between the tobogganing hill and the Visitor Centre. To warm off, make use of the warm-up shack nearby. Duck Mountain Provincial Park offers 75 kilometres of trails through diverse terrain.

The park is also a good place to try your hand at ice fishing at Madge Lake and reel in Northern Pike, Walleye, and Yellow Perch. You can also book a cabin from Madge Lake Developments.

Duck Mountain Provincial Park is home to Duck Mountain Ski Area for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. Featuring a vertical drop of 325 feet and 35 skiable acres, with 21 groomed runs, this hill has something for everyone.

The ski trails are suitable for both classical-style skiing and skate skiing. The park has 70 km of groomed and well-marked trails throughout the winter. Have a great family time skating at the outdoor rink located in the Ministik beach parking lot or make use of the toboggan hill located nearby. Be sure to make use of the warm-up shelter!

Snowmobiling, fat biking, crockicurl are some of the other activities that you can do here.

14. Moose Mountain Provincial Park

 
Moose Mountain is an island of birch and aspen nestled in the southeast corner of the province. In addition to being a great summer destination, Moose Mountain offers wonderful fall camping opportunities.

Kenosee Lake in Moose Mountain Provincial Park is a prime spot for ice fishing, attracting anglers of all skill levels. Renowned for its abundant Perch and Walleye, it provides a rewarding winter fishing experience. Note that the filleting shack is unavailable during the colder months.

Experience a magical evening on January 30, 2026, at Moose Mountain Provincial Park’s Candlelight Ski. Glide along the 3.2 km Academy Trail, illuminated by candlelight, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The park has an extensive trail system including 50 km of ski trails groomed for classic and skate skiing. In addition, there is 120 km of groomed snowmobile trails as well as groomed toboggan hills to enjoy a fun family time. The park also has a warm-up shelter with camp stoves.

Near the Fish Creek Campground is a 4 km trail that is great to enjoy skiing at night. The 10 km of snowshoe trails allow winter enthusiasts to enjoy the beauty of the park. Other activities to enjoy here are tobogganing, crokicurl, and ice fishing. Be sure to check out the Park Activity Kits! The crokicurl ice is located in McNaughton Heights, just east of the toboggan hill. Enjoy the thrill of tobogganing at Moose Mountain’s hill, located east of the Chalet at the lookout point. With evening lighting, it’s perfect for all-day fun. Details

15. Echo Valley Provincial Park

Located in the Qu’Appelle Valley, Echo Valley Provincial Park is a favourite among nature lovers with more than 225 species of birds in the valley, including mountain bluebirds. Park Activity Kits, available from the entry gates, will have many fun activities to enjoy with your family.

Lace-up your blades for a skate through the popular Aspen campground along a 2 km winding trail then skate over to the fire to warm up. Ice fishing at Echo and Pasqua lakes and skiing at over 10 km of groomed trails are also very popular. Enjoy a game of crokicurl with your family on the crokicurl ice north of the Visitor Centre, next to the road. Details

16. Buffalo Pound Provincial Park

A memorable getaway for fun-seekers and nature lovers alike where visitors can enjoy fishing, wake-boarding, water skiing, or hiking along the many trails. The barrier-free trout pond is a popular area to ice fish. Fish for pike and walleye at the Buffalo Pound Lake. The park has many biking trails that can be used to enjoy mountain biking in the winter.

The park has 7 km of ungroomed cross-country ski trails for all ages and levels and the park is also home to the White Track Ski Resort. Beginner skiers can check out the 1.5 km loop trail. The Lower Chalet campground is popular with snowshoers. Try to spot the various wildlife while enjoying a stroll or have fun tobogganing.

Bring your sled and enjoy the tobogganing hill located beside the Visitor Centre.

If you haven’t tried disc golfing, you can enjoy it here at the park! Fat-tire biking is another popular activity to enjoy here. Details

17. Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park

Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park is a four-season destination with lots to do all year round. In the winter enjoy the hushed silence when a fresh blanket of snow has just fallen. While the Cypress Hills averages over 8 feet of snow each winter, warm Chinook winds often blow through, quickly melting away the deep snows.

There are 11 marked cross-country ski trails that cover 27 km of which 15 km are groomed. Trans Canada Trail transects the park. In the Centre Block, this trail covers over 16 km of rugged countryside. Explore the park on marked snowshoe trails. There are warm-up shelters that you can make use of.

Located on the hill behind the Visitor Centre are great places to enjoy tobogganing- Toboggan hill and toboggan luge track. Do bring your own toboggan. Disc-style toboggans and helmets are recommended for the toboggan luge track.

Enclosed picnic shelters are present at the main beach on Loch Leven. You can also enjoy a picnic at one of the park’s warm-up shack.

Loch Leven & Cypress Lake are popular places to ice fish (Fishing licenses are required). Loch Leven is a great spot for winter anglers to target Rainbow and Brook Trout, with a two-fish limit. For those seeking variety, nearby Cypress Lake offers deeper waters filled with Perch, Pike, and Walleye.

The Resort at Cypress Hills has an outdoor rink where one can enjoy skating. The staging area of the snowmobile trail is located at the Dark Sky Campground. Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park provides a dedicated snowmobiling zone on the west side of Centre Block, allowing riders to explore snow-covered landscapes freely while enjoying the park’s stunning winter scenery.

Snowshoes are available for rent from The Resort at Cypress Hills. You can pick up a map from the Park Administrative Office or the Resort and enjoy a unique winter walk! The Park Administration Office or Resort will have Park Activity Kits for pick-up. They are great resources for fun activities available at the park.

Disc golf is another popular activity to enjoy at the park. Spend the night and enjoy a unique camping experience with Camp-Easy Tents! Details

18. Rowan’s Ravine Provincial Park

Last Mountain Lake is southern Saskatchewan’s largest natural lake. Also called Long Lake for this reason, it is famous for great fishing, sailing, and all sorts of water recreation. Ice fishing anyone? Catch trophy Walleye, Northern Pike, and Carp. Details

19. Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park

Lake Diefenbaker is one of the most popular fishing lakes in Saskatchewan. When the temperatures drop below freezing, ice fishing becomes the most popular activity at this Lake! Access the lake at both the Marina Boat Launch and the West Boat Launch. Details

20. Great Blue Heron Provincial Park

Embrace the great outdoors at Great Blue Heron Provincial Park. The Park is a winter haven for ice fishing, featuring two excellent lakes. Emma Lake buzzes with activity, ideal for catching Walleye and Northern Pike, while Anglin Lake offers a tranquil escape to target Walleye, Perch, and Northern Pike.

Great Blue Heron Provincial Park features 15 kilometres of serene snowmobiling trails that connect seamlessly to the larger trail network beyond the park.

The park has groomed hiking/snowshoeing/26-km of cross-country ski trails that connect with Prince Albert National Park. Warm up at the Tower Cabin, located at the summit of the Anglin trails. There are also several snowmobile trails here that connect the area’s lakes. Those who want more thrill can try dogsledding with SunDogs. Details

21. Pike Lake Provincial Park

Pike Lake Provincial Park is a serene place to spend your time during the winter months. Grab your snowshoes and explore the Gift of Green Nature Trail. Grab the Park Activity kits from the entry gates to enjoy more fun activities with your family. Enjoy skating on the scenic canal surrounded by the beauty of winter.

You can try your hand at Crokicurl or enjoy scenic views while skiing 9 km of scenic landscape. Details

Winter Camping in Saskatchewan Provincial Park

This year, you can reserve campsites online at these parks:

  • Blackstrap Provincial Park
  • Danielson Provincial Park
  • Duck Mountain Provincial Park
  • Douglas Provincial Park
  • Echo Valley Provincial Park
  • Pike Lake Provincial Park
  • Rowan’s Ravine Provincial Park

Electrical sites will only cost $35/night, while Non-electrical sites are available for $18/night.

You can also book a Camp-Easy-equipped yurt or tent, available at Echo Valley Provincial Park. Camp-Easy yurts are $85/night and must be reserved online in advance. Details
