Go on a magical stroll through snowy, wooded trails at Mounstberg Conservation Area near Toronto.

Conservation Halton

Mountsberg Conservation Area is set to illuminate the winter season with its award-winning Winterlit event, running from December 31, 2025, to January 4, 2026, and continuing on weekends from January 9 to February 16, 2026. New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day will feature a special activation called Enchanted Evenings.

There are around 15 km of trails at Mounstberg. These trails look stunning in winter, covered in a thick blanket of glistening white snow.

What to Expect at Winterlit

  • Two illuminated trails — Meander through the 1-km Winterlit Trail and the 1-km Illuminated Sugar Bush, each dotted with sustainably sourced art installations that turn the woods into a soft, glowing gallery.
  • Cozy corners everywhere — Fireside Lounges give you a reason to linger, while the Book Nook invites you to swap a book, play board games, and thaw out your fingertips.
  • Meet the neighbours — Step into The Den to learn about Mountsberg’s resident animals, then brand your own wooden keepsake before heading home.
  • Hands-on creativity — Art in the Park ($5; free for kids 2 and under) lets you create a piece of art that supports Mountsberg’s Animal Care Fund.
  • A quick burst of nerdy fun — Host Spencer Dunn leads a 30-minute trivia session filled with fern-tastic humour and nature oddities. Winners walk away with a bottle of maple syrup, and everyone earns “certified nature nerd” bragging rights. January 30 and 31 with sessions at 6, 7, 8, and 9 p.m. Tickets are $5, supporting the Animal Care Fund.

  • Friday & Saturday Add-Ons
      • Discover Owls ($8, Fridays) — A guided look at Ontario’s owl species; children must attend with an adult.
      • Stargazer Hikes ($8, Saturdays) — Join a naturalist for a 45-minute astronomy walk on clear nights, or an indoor star-lesson if skies don’t cooperate.
      • Beeswax Candle Making ($10, Enchanted Evenings only) — A 20-minute workshop inspired by Mountsberg’s active bee yard.

Enchanted Evenings

  • It’s the familiar Winterlit stroll, but dressed up for a celebration. Enchanted Evenings on December 31, 2025, and February 14, 2026, bring additional attractions like live music from performers Benji Crane, Duke McRae, Hayley Verrall. Guests can also captivating fire and magic performances.
  • Fireside warmth and a licensed Glow Bar — Settle in beside one of the Fireside Lounges where crackling flames and chilly-night conversations come naturally. If you’re in the mood for something festive, the Winterlit Glow Bar adds a shimmering touch, serving drinks that feel right at home under the canopy of lights.
  • Live music woven into the woods — Enjoy performances that settle beautifully into the night air, including sets by Benji Crane, Hayley Verrall, and (on February’s date) Duke McRae. Over at the Discovery Centre Patio, Emily Misura’s “Stringing Him Along” brings 45-minute violin sets that dance between classical expertise and modern flair.
  • Fire, glow, and little bursts of spectacle — Dispatch Talent lights up the evening with fire shows at 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, and 9:00 p.m., each a quick hit of flame and choreography. Glow performers roam the trails from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m., adding flickers of colour that appear and vanish as you explore.
  • Creative keepsakes to take home — Add a beeswax candle-making workshop ($10) for a hands-on moment inspired by Mountsberg’s own bee yard. Or try Art in the Park ($5) to craft a small piece of art that supports the Animal Care Fund. Children 2 and under join both activities free of charge.

Trip Planning – Winterlit

Mountsberg is leaning all the way into the magic of winter this year, inviting you to wander through its glowing forest, warm up beside crackling fires, and discover little pockets of whimsy tucked between the trees. Winterlit returns as a nighttime escape where nature takes centre stage—quiet, shimmering, and just strange enough to make you feel like you’ve slipped into a storybook.
