For those of you looking for a short getaway from the city this fall, we have some ideas for ways to spend a day away from the city. Not so far that you’re driving for more than an hour, but not too close to the hustle and bustle either.

Here are ten fall day trips to take in and around Charlottetown.
Hike the Fall Colours at Mooney’s Pond, Mount Stewart
Located just off Mount Stewart Rd (Highway 22), the hike through the woods to Mooney’s Pond is a short (1.9km), but enjoyable nature hike through dense forest gilded with gorgeous fall colours. The hike ends with a short boardwalk, ending up at Mooney’s Pond. If you wish to be extra adventurous, bring your kayak along for a paddle.
It is also wheelchair accessible.

Go Apple Picking
Prince Edward Island is home to some fantastic apple orchards, and what better way to spend a fall afternoon than to go pick some? One of the best orchards that are closest to Charlottetown is the Wintermoor Orchard. They sell apple cider by the jug, and the short distance from Charlottetown makes it a simple yet fun date destination for Fall 2024.

Mysa Nordic Spa & Resort
Plan a day trip to rejuvenate at the only Nordic spa on the island – Mysa Nordic Spa & Resort – before the hectic days of the holidays. This 18-acre retreat offers an array of spa and relaxation services, such as thermal baths, cold water plunges, essential oil steam rooms, a Finnish sauna, massages, and meditation sessions.
In addition, as part of the 2025 Fall Flavours festival, the Spa will be hosting The Ultimate Chef’s Table, a culinary extravaganza on the Thanksgiving weekend.

Take in a Wine Tasting at Rossignol
The fruits are harvested in the fall season, and grapes and wine are available. Rossignol Estate Winery is one of PEI’s best wineries, exporting the finest Island grape wine. At only an hour away, it is the perfect Sunday afternoon day trip – tour the winery, walk among the vines and sip the finest wine on the Island.

Walk Among the Corn Stalks
Be like Jack and the Beanstalk, but with corn – and of course, if your name isn’t Jack… If you’ve never experienced a corn maze or have children, this might be your perfect excuse to try one!
The Kool Breeze Farms, located in Summerside, is a fantastic way to spend your day with the family – and at only 50 minutes outside of Charlottetown, you won’t have to spend hours travelling in the car with your kids either!

Spend a Crisp Fall Day on the Beaches of Argyle Shore Provincial Park
The Argyle Shore Provincial Park is a little gem in south PEI. Located only ~30 minutes from Charlottetown, the Argyle Shore is a beautiful place nestled on PEI’s coast.
Complete with dozens of kilometres of walking trails, a boardwalk and a couple of great beaches, it’s a fantastic place to spend a sunset and still be close enough to get back to Charlottetown after dark!

Pick Your Own Pumpkins!
Another thing that couldn’t be more autumnal is pumpkins! Whilst also being popular around Halloween, pumpkins in all of their various forms (spiced lattes, for example) are just as much a signifier of fall as the changing of the leaves. Now, at Pater’s Pumpkins in Brackley, you can pick your own pumpkins for all your festive fall needs.

Pay a Visit to the Green Gable Alpacas
The closest thing outside of Charlottetown to an exotic zoo is the Green Gable Alpacas. The farm has been operating for the last 12 years, and aside from keeping these beautiful animals, it hosts workshops on the utility of alpaca wool. Even if only to see these cute animals up close, you simply must pay a visit to the Green Gables Alpacas this fall. While it is quite a distance to travel, that’s why you make a day trip out of it.

The 5/15 Fermentation Trail
Fall means Oktoberfests, and PEI has its own trail where you can taste locally-made beverages, including wine, beer, cider, mead and spirits. Set out on a journey on the 5/15 Fermentation Trail to discover the finest fermented drinks in Queens County. There are a total of 5 alcoholic beverage producers that are just 15 minutes away from each other, hence the name 5/15 Fermentation Trail. Remember to get a designated driver.

A Halloween Scare
With Fall comes Halloween, and Halloween means trips to spooky haunts. Make a trip to Kensington for a heart-stopping scare and visit Dr. Jack and all of his friends at PEI’s largest, scariest haunted house! PEI’s haunted mansion is back with terrifying Nights of Fear during the last two weeks of October.
