Ah, yes. The age old question of “where should we eat tonight?” That question’s answer becomes simple this fall in Calgary.

Over the past summer, several new places opened in the city for dinner, but also breakfast, brunch, lunch, and drinks. Calgary’s newest restaurants, which opened summer 2023, give you and your group a vast variety of places to choose.
Many of Calgary’s new restaurants opened downtown, but the city’s outer neighbourhoods and corners also saw a handful of grand openings.

Sushi AOI
Sushi AOI recently opened last month on the east side of the Beltline neighbourhood. This cozy sushi spot offers a huge array of rolls from which to choose, as well as a long list of nigiri. And if you can’t decide on one or two, try the rolls, nigiri, and sashimi, as dinner combos. The restaurant has a delicious list of smaller plates and appetizers perfect for sharing including tempura dishes, noodles, or soups.

YYC Patisserie
YYC Patisserie is the newest bakery to try in southeast Calgary. The bakery is set up in the Douglasdale neighbourhood for brunch, and casual bakery treats. This includes a variety of café drinks, fresh breads, loave, and croissants, cakes, pies, and more.

Seoul Fried Chicken
Edmonton’s Seoul Fried Chicken expanded to Calgary! The Edmonton fried-chicken joint has two locations, while Calgary’s downtown neighbourhood just welcomed the company’s third Alberta spot. Ask anyone from Edmonton where they get their fried chicken now, and you’re likely to hear about Seoul and their mouthwatering fried chicken flavours, and sides.

Oakberry
The international smoothie chain Oakberry only have a handful of Canadian locations. And this summer, two of those became Calgary Oakberry locations! You can try these drinks at the District in the Beltline location, or at their kiosk in Brookflield Place.

Four Dogs Brewing
The namesake for this new brewery in Calgary is quite special to the owners. The four dogs refer to their own past pups, with beers serving as odes to each dog’s companionship. Stop in the new taproom for a visit, and to try the Zen’s Great Dane Stout, Friday’s German Pointer Pilsner, Sasha’s Rhodesian Ridgeback Ale, or Elvis’ Salted Lime Lager.

Tiger K
The September 8th grand opening of Tiger K, a new Korean restaurant in Calgary, arrives with much anticipation. Tiger K boasts a brand new menu of authentic Korean soul food which many have already enjoyed through the soft opening. The menu includes a gourmet seafood selection, and a list of craft cocktails.

Padmanadi
One of Edmonton’s popular vegan restaurants will open a new Calgary location on September 15th. The family restaurant uses Indonesian cuisine and flavours to inspire its fully vegan menu. And, the restaurant offers take-home heat-and-serve options, too.

Ora Bread & Wine
Ora Bread & Wine in west downtown Calgary aim to be your new go-to brunch spot. Allow them to lure you in with the smells of freshly baked breads or cooking potatoes and bacon. They have almost everything you need in a solid brunch meal, no matter your taste preferences. And while they are creating buzz around the brunch, Ora Bread & Wine also serve dinner.

Class Clown Hamburgers
The start to summer in Calgary saw the opening of a new and delicious hamburger joint. Class Clown Hamburgers is on the busy corner of 4th Street and 18th Avenue SW with a simple storefront that leads to cozy diner-style seating area. The burgers are the highlight of the menu and come in varieties like Szechuwannabe Hot Chicken Burger, Coney Island Cowboy hamburger, or the Winnipeg Fat Boy hamburger.

My Little Italia
We could all use a little more Italian food in our lives! My Little Italia are the perfect place to start as one of Calgary’s newest eateries. The new Italian restaurant in Calgary’s Mission neighbourhood offers a wonderful selection of homemade pastas in a variety of flavours. Some examples include Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli, Brown Sage Butter Gnocchi, Seafood Tomato Pescatore, and Nonna’s Meatballs Pomodoro.

Uncle Tetsu
Calgary’s new Uncle Tetsu, a bakery serving up authentic Japanese cheesecakes, opened this past July to satisfy any sweet tooth. These perfected cheesecakes are served alongside a menu of other sweets, too. In addition to cheesecakes, the bakery also offers a selection of madeleines, cheese tarts, and angel hat.

Milk Ice Cream Club
The Milk Ice Cream Club originally started as a pop-up shop in the John’s Breakfast & Lunch family restaurant. The owners are now proud to be part of the Crescent Heights neighbourhood as a standalone ice cream shop! If you’ve tried Milk’s ice cream flavours before, then you have an idea for the unique menu selection. If not, there is no time like the end of summer for trying a new ice cream. Milk offers flavours like Viet Coffee, Ube, Pandan, or Sea Salt Skor.

Tori Bar
Tori Bar opened this past August in Calgary in the heart of Inglewood with Japanese Yakitori as the restaurant’s specialty. Yakitori commonly refers to a Japanese grilled chicken dish, but Tori Bar have an expanded menu of grilled vegetables, appetizers, and sides.

Modus Vivendi
The menu at Calgary’s new Modus Vivendi is a rich blend of flavours. The Mediterranean restaurant, which opened in downtown Calgary in early June, blend the Mediterranean flavours with Canadian inspirations to bring us hearty mains and appetizers. The menu will focus on seasonal offerings and is subject to change every few months in order to stay fresh.

G.OAT Bar
Calgary is now home to a bar who specializes not in drinks or spirits, or even brews. Rather, G>OAT Bar’s specialty are steel-cut oats! The eateries oats are combined with bright, colourful, and fresh breakfast toppings to create delectable bowls. The bowls include fruits, seeds, nuts, and various rich flavours.

Wing’n It
This Canadian franchise has set up shop in Calgary’s Kensington neighbourhood. Wing’n, It has locations across Alberta, and a few other provinces. Their two menus, Traditional for dine-in and Express for take-out, have something for everyone in the family or group. Stop by for snacks, appetizers, or a game-night-meal. Wing’n, It offer their famous chicken wings a variety of ways including traditional/regular, boneless, without seasoning, or as a vegetarian cauliflower option.
