Edmonton to Welcome 2022 With New Year’s Eve Midnight Fireworks

New year’s eve fireworks will light up Edmonton skies this December 31st.

The 2022 new year’s eve fireworks display by the city of Edmonton will not be held at Alberta Legislature grounds.

The 10 minutes long fireworks display will begin at midnight instead of 9:00 p.m and will be launched from the roof of the Stanley A. Milner Library.

Sir Winston Churchill Square and City Hall Plaza will provide the best view of the fireworks display.

There will not be any live entertainment this year.

The fireworks display was held at Alberta Legislature grounds for the past few years due to LRT construction except in 2020 when it was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Regarding the decision to hold midnight fireworks, the City, on the website states “the decision to hold midnight fireworks show in 2021 is based on the lack of funding to hold two fireworks displays (one early in the evening and one at midnight), and because a midnight fireworks show is more appropriate for Alberta’s capital city.”

The public can enjoy the holiday tree and art installations that are part of the Edmonton Downtown Holiday Light Up event.

City Hall ice rink will be open and free skate rentals will be available. The skate change room will be open from 6 pm -midnight.

On Friday, December 31, ETS will run extra late-night service until 3:30 a.m. on buses and LRT. From 6 p.m. to 3 a.m., transit will be free.

Parking will be available in the Canada Place parkade via the 97 Street entrance, and the Stanley A. Milner Library parkade for $5/hr ($10 maximum from 5pm-2am) but there will be no access to the City Hall parkade after 6 p.m. on December 31.
