Edmonton Cancels 2021 New Years Eve Fireworks

imageThe City of Edmonton has announced that it is cancelling this year’s New Year’s Eve event and fireworks show as COVID-19 cases are rising in the region.

The city says the fireworks show cancellation will save the City $187,000, while the cancellation of programming will result in a savings of $60,000, resulting in a total cost-savings of $247,000 in 2020.

The celebration and fireworks had been scheduled to return to City Hall and Sir Winston Churchill Square this year, after having been relocated to the Alberta Legislature grounds for the past three years due to LRT construction.

Other Canadian cities, such as Vancouver, Toronto and Ottawa have also cancelled this year’s New Year’s Eve event.
