2023 Best Countries Report: Canada is 2nd Best Country in the World

Canada is the 2nd best country in the world according to the 2023 Best Countries Report by U.S. News & World Report.

Switzerland has once again clinched the No. 1 position in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Countries rankings for the sixth time, marking its second consecutive year atop the list.

Canada, Sweden, Australia, and the United States followed, with the latter dropping one place from 2022.

Canada has improved its position from 2022, when it was rated as the 3rd best in the world. Canada was the best country in 2021, 2nd best in 2020.

The 2023 Best Countries Report is a ranking and analysis project by U.S. News & World Report U.S. in collaboration with WPP and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

The rankings are determined by a survey of over 17,000 participants from 36 nations. Per the news release, participants evaluated 87 countries based on 73 different attributes such as safety, economic stability, commitment to human rights, and social justice.

In the 2023 rankings, European nations dominated the top 25, securing 16 spots. Among the most notable shifts were Germany’s five-place descent and the impressive ascents of Australia and New Zealand by three positions each. The United Arab Emirates was the Middle East’s sole entrant in the top 25, with Asia being represented by Japan, Singapore, China, and South Korea.
