Seven Canadian bars won North America’s 50 Best Bars awards.
The annual ranking, sponsored by Perrier, includes bars from the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean, with 28 U.S. bars, 14 from Mexico, seven from Canada, and one from the Caribbean making the cut.
Toronto’s Civil Liberties retained the title of the Best Bar in Canada for the second year in a row, followed by newcomers Bar Pompette, Botanist Bar, and Atwater Cocktail Club.
Other Canadian Bars on the list include Cloakroom in Montreal and Mother and Bar Mordecai in Toronto.
Double Chicken Please in New York City took the top spot, named both the Best Bar in North America and the Best Bar in Northeast USA. Mexico City’s Handshake Speakeasy claims second place and is named the Best Bar in Mexico, followed by New York City’s Katana Kitten at third place.
The Disaronno Highest New Entry went to Toronto’s Bar Pompette, and Vancouver’s Botanist Bar was feted with the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award.
North America’s 50 Best Bars awards organized by William Reed, was launched in June 2022, shining a spotlight on the region as a top destination for drinks and recognizing the talent of its bartenders and bar owners. The awards cover bars in Canada, the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
As per the website, the voting system is based on the anonymous votes of North American industry experts, including bartenders, bar owners, and drinks media, who form the Academy of more than 260 members. Each member votes for seven bars, with a maximum of five in their home country or state, and the votes are kept confidential until the list is announced. The Academy is divided into eight regions, each with its own panel of members and chairperson. Bars cannot apply to be on the list.
