1. Battle River Train Excursions – Sip n’ Ride with Detention Brewing

Battle River Train Excursions

While the Battle River Train Excursions don’t offer accommodation, their Sip n’ Ride event with Detention Brewing is a perfect excuse for a stay in Forestburg, Rosalind, or Camrose. Trains leave either Forestburg or Kelsey and bring you to Detention Brewing in Rosalind. The unique brewery is in a hundred-year-old school, which you’ll get to tour while you learn about the area and Detention’s history/beers. Lunch and a tasting flight are included in your ticket.

2. Peace River Cabins & Outdoors

 

Settle in for a cozy and rustic camping experience through Peace River Cabins. You can opt for this quainter and more relaxing getaway or add some adventure to the weekend. Add-on activities include guided hikes, guided paddling, or opportunities to rent kayaks and explore the waters on your own.

3. Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village opening weekend

Ukrainian Village is a short drive from Edmonton and other central Alberta towns/cities, and they welcome you to the opening weekend of their 130th year! While the Historic Site opens on May 21st for 2022, you’ll want to visit on the 23rd when they host their Spring Celebration, featuring dance performances. You can find camping at the nearby Elk Island NP, or several hotel options in Edmonton.

When: May 23rd, 2022

Where: 25 minutes east of Edmonton along Hwy 16 E, Lamont County

4. Banff Sunshine Village

There are many events to check out in Banff over the long weekend, many of which are close-out bashes to the previous ski season. At the Village, you can catch the Slushshine Rail Jam, a Borgeau Bonfire Bash, the Untracked Concert Series, and the Slush Cup. Accommodations can be found onsite with more options in town.

In case, you didn’t know, once the ski season is over, the resort transforms into a hiking paradise as Sunshine Meadows with highest Gondola/Chairlift that access sightseeing elevation in the Banff.

5. Willey West Campground Superhero Weekend

Your family getaway for May Long weekend can be made mightier with Willey West’s Superhero Weekend. The Drayton Valley campground is a great place to bring kids, but this will be especially true for May 21st when they host a Superhero Weekend. Everyone is encouraged to dress up as their favourite hero, and kids will be entertained with crafts and other activities. They can accommodate tents or RVs, or you can book a glamping cabin.

6. Dinosaur Trail RV Resort & Cabins

The height of spring is one of the best times to visit the badlands: the valley is in full bloom with trees, shrubs, and wildflowers, and the temperatures aren’t yet too hot for Drumheller activities, as they could be over summer. The Dinosaur Trail RV Resort has you covered with a few different accommodation options like camping sites already equipped with tents or RVs, and cabins, or ‘Dino Dens.’

7. Gregoire Lake Provincial Park

Take the long weekend to relax among the forest, a sandy beach, and clear lake. Gregoire Lake PP has several campsites available for the May Long weekend, all of which are relatively private thanks to the tall trees. There are several amenities at Gregoire Lake like a store, showers, firewood sales, and a playground.
