Alberta Announces New Gathering Restrictions Effective Oct. 6th

Alberta is reducing the number of people you can get together with outdoors this Thanksgiving weekend.

Effective Oct. 6th, all outdoor private social gatherings will be limited to a maximum of 20 people, with two-metre physical distancing between households at all times. All other restrictions will remain in place.

Previously, outdoor private social gatherings were limited to a maximum of 200 people, with 2-metre physical distancing at all times.

The province is also rolling out a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine starting Oct. 6th. Albertans aged 75 and older and First Nations, Inuit and Métis people aged 65 and older can begin booking a third dose at least six months after their second dose.

 

Social Gathering Restrictions:

(ongoing & new effective October 6th)

Indoor social gatherings:

  • Vaccinated: Indoor private social gatherings are limited to 2 households (yours plus one other) up to a maximum of 10 vaccine-eligible, vaccinated people and no restrictions on children under 12.
  • Unvaccinated: Indoor social gatherings are not permitted for vaccine-eligible people who are unvaccinated.
  • This restriction does not apply to mutual support groups, or to workers who need to access your home to provide caregiving support or home repairs and maintenance.

Outdoor social gatherings (newly announced Oct 5th):

  • Outdoor private social gatherings are limited to a maximum of 20 people, with 2 metre physical distancing between households at all times.
