Alberta Increases Electricity Rebates by $150

Albertans can further save $150 this year as the Kenney government announced an extension to the electricity rebate program until December.

This means that eligible Albertans will now get a total of $300 in Electricity rebates translating into a monthly $50 bill credit for six consecutive months starting this month.

The Electricity Rebate Program is for those whose electricity use is under 250-megawatt hours per year.

The rebate will appear on each bill as a line titled “GOA Utility Commodity Rebate.”

Associate Minister of Natural Gas and Electricity Dale Nally said in a press release, “We are doubling the electricity rebate to help reduce the financial burden that many families in Alberta are dealing with due to the rising cost of living. This move will help millions of families and business owners pay their bills and keep their lights on while we continue working to build a stronger, more affordable long-term electricity system.”

Albertans need not apply for this rebate, but those who meet the eligibility criteria and have not received the rebates by the end of July should contact the Utility Consumer Advocate at 310-4822 or UCAhelps@gov.ab.ca for assistance.

Recently, the provincial government also implemented a natural gas rebate program which will see the cost of gas rebated to $6.50 per GJ if the natural gas rate goes above this rate.

Last month, Albert extended the temporary suspension of 13 percent provincial fuel tax collection on every litre of gasoline or diesel until September.
