Take a vacation this coming weekend and choose from those different ways to stay in Alberta, as well as rodeos and festivals to check out.

These Alberta getaways for July 8th to 10th can take you anywhere in Alberta and can get you inspired for more summer plans.

Calgary Stampede

Alberta’s biggest summer festival – Calgary Stampede kicks off on Friday with a grand parade and a whole lot of fun. The biggest Ferris wheel will be in town providing a unique view of the Stampede grounds, and live concerts headlined by chart-topping artists will fill the grounds. Enjoy rodeo, chuckwagon races, various shows and more! Admission is free if you go straight to the grounds after the parade and on Sunday until 10:30 a.m. Details

Pembina River Nights

The Pembina River Nights music festival this weekend takes place in Evansburg, on the shores of the Pembina. This all means you can choose to sit out on the grass to take in the live music, from your campsite, or from on the river itself (bring floaties!). The two evenings of live music include upbeat rock, country, folk, and more, giving you shows for all tastes in music. River Nights is a family-friendly event with camping available for one or two nights and a concession on-site for the entire weekend. Details

When: July 8-9, 2022

Where: Rangeton Park, Evansburg

How much: $150 per person, children 14 and under free; includes one- or two-nights camping

More ideas for summer fun

Folk Tree Lodge in Kananaskis

The Folk Tree’s ‘Little Red House” is a new addition to the Lodge in 2022 and is a great escape for two. The House includes a TV and Wi-Fi, a small patio and chairs near a firepit, a full kitchen, and beautiful surrounding scenery. The Lodge is nestled near Bragg Creek where you are close to mountains, rivers, lakes, and trails.

Where: Bragg Creek, Alberta

How much: $250 per night (for a 2-person cabin during their low season; larger cabins also available for multiple couples)

Details

Moonshine Lake Provincial Park

Don’t let the small size of the Moonshine Lake area fool you; there is still a lot to do around this area, especially on warm summer days. This northwest corner of Alberta is an important part of the route for migratory birds, so the bird and wildlife watching are excellent with very little noise to disrupt you. There are plenty of smaller things around the campground to keep everyone entertained, too, such as a playground, beach, and horseshoes. There are still campsites available which are close to the lake, but no matter your choice they all come with power hookup. Details

Rocky View Yurts

The small yurt in the big woods doesn’t look that small at all, especially when compared to a tent you might need on other trips. The solar-powered yurts include an outdoor shower, indoor toilet, a wood-fired grill, and the chance to book an immersive nature experience with your hosts. And beyond those, you have the entire Rocky Mountains and parks at your doorstep. Details

Where: west of Bottrel in Rocky View

Lamont Summer Sizzler Rodeo

Lamont’s Summer Sizzler Rodeo is a two-day event with activities for all ages and an exciting lineup of events. The rodeo will be home to a parade, beer gardens, a Combine Crunch, and food vendors. There are hotels in Lamont but if those are full, you can also camp at the nearby Elk Island NP or stay at a hotel in southeast Edmonton. Details
