Premier Approval June 2022: Kenney Sees Slight Increase; Houston, Horgan, Legault Approval Slides

Angus Reid has published its quarterly Premiers’ approval rating results based on the online survey which was conducted from June 7-13, 2022. The survey was conducted among a randomized sample of 5,032 Canadian adults who are members of the Angus Reid Forum.

 

The poll finds that though Nova Scotia’s Tim Houston’s approval rating slid 11 points since last March, he is still the most popular premier in the country with 62 per cent approving his performance.

The second most popular premier in Canada is Saskatchewan’s Premier Scott Moe and his approval ratings remain unchanged at 51 per cent.

The approval rating of B.C.’s John Horgan is also a downward trend with only 48 per cent people approving of his performance as the premier. As per Angus Reid, a shortage of family doctors and other “out of touch” with regular British Columbians policies” are the main causes.

The bill enforces the use of French in many aspects of Quebec public life has caused the Quebec premier’s approval ratings to slide sharply among English-speaking Quebecers with four-in-five (83%) anglophones disapproving of his performance. François Legault’s current rating stands at 44 per cent with more than half (53%) of French-speakers endorsing his performance.

Doug Ford, who won a second term with a large majority and outgoing Premier Jason Kenney saw a two-point increase in approval at 42 per cent and 32 per cent respectively.

Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey’s approval slid by 10 points and now have the approval of two-fifths of the province’s residents at 40 per cent.

One-third of New Brunswickers say they approve of Premier Blaine Higgs. Both Furey and Higgs have been accused of not doing enough to fight inflation.

No higher than one-quarter of Manitobans approve of Premier Heather Stefanson. Stefanson who has a little over a year to go be before the provincial elections continued to be dodged with strong disapproval as high as two-in-five residents have a negative view of her performance as premier.
