Bellevue House National Historic Site to Offer Free Grounds Admission

Get ready to embark on a historical adventure as Bellevue House National Historic Site opens its doors for the summer season starting May 18.

At Bellevue House in Kingston, you’ll have the opportunity to delve into the life and legacy of Sir John A. Macdonald, the visionary behind the formation of Canada. Discover the complexities of his role as Prime Minister and the lasting impact of his policies.

While the historic Bellevue House itself is undergoing renovations, visitors can still enjoy free access to the visitor centre and explore the beautiful grounds.

The exhibits and programming are being updated to present a more inclusive perspective, including the viewpoints of Indigenous and racialized communities.

Take a guided heritage tour of the grounds, immerse yourself in the interactive Heritage Stations, and don’t miss the enlightening Many Voices of Confederation exhibit at the Visitor Centre.

You can have a memorable summer exploring the exhibits, participating in guided or self guided outdoor tours, and the picturesque heritage gardens.

Bellevue House National Historic Site – 2023 Season

What: Bellevue House National Historic Site is a place where visitors can explore Sir John A. Macdonald’s role in forming the Dominion of Canada, his actions as Prime Minister, and understand the painful legacies caused by his policies and decisions. Parks Canada is updating exhibits and programming for the historic house to present Confederation and the complex legacies of Sir John A. Macdonald from many viewpoints, including those of Indigenous and racialized communities.

The historic Bellevue House is closed for a renewal of its exhibits, but the grounds and gardens are open.

When:

Bellevue House National Historic Site will be open from May 18 to June 30 and September 5 to October 9, Thursday to Monday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During July 1 to September 4, it will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Grounds and Visitor Centre admission — Free

Guided Tour of the Site – Daily, May to October, per person: $10.31
Guided Tour of the Site – Groups (25 persons minimum), per person: $5.25
