Olympic medalists Georgia Simmerling and Stephanie Labbé have announced their engagement through social media yesterday. Simmerling and Labbé got engaged in Jasper during a camping trip after their whirlwind Tokyo Olympics trip.
Announcing the engagement, Simmerling posted “A camping trip we’ll never forget. I asked my best friend to spend the rest of her life with me aaaand SHE SAID YAAASSSSS! My heart is so full. I love you with all that I am.”
“Through my ugly crying I could barely hear what you said, but what I do know is that spending the rest of my life with you by my side is the greatest gift,” said Stephanie Labbé in her post. “My heart and soul are complete with you in my life. I feel safe, calm and hopeful that no matter what comes our way we will be ok. My best friend, my soulmate, my rock, my FIANCÉE”
Calgary-born Georgia Simmerling has won a bronze medal for Canada in team pursuit cycling at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and finished fourth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Edmonton-born Stephanie Labbé is the goalkeeper for Canada’s 2020 Olympic gold medal-winning women’s soccer team. This is her second Olympic medal as Canadian women won the 2016 Olympic bronze medal.
