Canada’s largest tulip festival returns on May 13th with in-person celebrations to celebrate its platinum jubilee year.
Held to celebrate Ottawa’s official flower as a symbol of international friendship and peace, the Canadian Tulip Festival commemorates the historic royal gift of tulips from the Dutch to Canadians after World War II.
The festival will begin on May 13th and will offer a variety of tulip-themed experiences including:
- Tulip Legacy Walking Tour which highlights Queen Juliana Gift Bed, The Man with Two Hats historic statue and Heritage Canada’s Dutch-Canadian War Brides Display.
- See tulips in a new light as you walk Dow’s Lake Blacklight Boardwalk and experience tulips through the ultraviolet spectrum from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm nightly.
- Free movies nightly in Commissioners Park at Dow’s lake beginning at 8:00 p.m. every night
- Ghosts of the Glebe Walking Tour tells you the story of young men who left the safety of their homes in the Glebe neighbourhood, right next to the site of The Canadian Tulip Festival, to fight for freedom overseas, never to return.
- A variety of workshops covering a wide range of topics from photography to beekeeping.
- Enjoy fireworks on Victoria Day Sunday starting at 10:00 PM.
In addition, you can also get handcrafted tulip-themed artwork and gorgeous artisanal pieces from the RE/MAX’s Tulip Boutique.
The festival runs until May 23rd at Commissioners Park in Ottawa.
