Plan a fall colour day trip through the colourful landscapes of Beeton Creek Valley aboard the South Simcoe Railway, Ontario’s pioneering steam heritage railway.
What to Expect During the Tarin Ride:
Departing from downtown Tottenham (New Tecumseth), just one hour’s drive from Toronto, this railway adventure offers a unique blend of picturesque scenery and educational experiences, particularly during the vibrant fall season when the valley is alive with fiery autumn hues.
The train rides are powered by a fleet of vintage locomotives, including the notable steam locomotive #136, constructed in 1883, and the diesel-electric #703 from 1948. These engines, alongside coaches dating back to the 1920s, traverse century-old tracks that once connected major Ontario cities like Hamilton, Barrie, and Collingwood.
Each hour-long excursion starts at the South Simcoe Railway station on Mill Street. During the trip, the conductor provides insightful commentary about the historical impact of railways on Canada. The journey not only captivates with its historical charm but also offers stunning views of the countryside, which transform spectacularly during the fall.
