With Caribou-Munroes Island Provincial Park on the south side of the Northumberland Strait, visitors can expect some of the warmest saltwater beaches in the province.
There is a small and quiet beach within walking distance from the campground (no parking lot) with picnic areas and washrooms, and a second beach accessible by road or by a trail from the campground beach. So, no matter where you are around the Provincial Park, saltwater swimming opportunities and soft white sand are within close range.
The sandy beach stretches along the entire east side of the park and continues as a sandspit which connects Munroes Island to the mainland. Luckily, this Island is open to hikers and beachgoers who wish to find quiet spots on the sand and in the Strait, with more trees and forest scenery, an abundance of birds, and incredible views over the water.
The hiking trails and beaches are a few ways to enjoy the waterfront views over the Northumberland Strait, while the campground has even more to offer: campers may opt for sites which sit right over the water with sweeping views of the shoreline and Strait.
Here are the top activities and ways to make the best of your trip: swim in the Northumberland Strait, hike to Munroes Island, enjoy waterfront camping, explore nearby trails, or take a ferry ride to PEI or Pictou Island.

Along the trails, there will be numerous opportunities to watch for marine life or seabirds, or possibly a red fox, who consider Munroes Island a sanctuary. Parts of Munroes Island are covered by balsam fir, maple, and white spruce trees, while the rest remains open meadows and grasslands to offer a diverse range of scenery over your hike. Additionally, the Northumberland Strait and its waterfront views will be nearby for the entire hike.
