Alberta is celebrating the province’s birthday with a newly minted designated day – Alberta Day.
As part of the celebrations, there are various festivities across the province starting today.
The majority of festivities take place on Saturday, September 3rd and this includes fireworks and a free concert by Brett Kissel in both Calgary and Edmonton organised by the provincial government.
The city of Edmonton is also celebrating Alberta Day with free festivities at Sir Winston Churchill Square and the City Hall Plaza starting at 1 p.m. on September 3rd.
There will be performances by the Wadjo Drummers, singer-songwriters Zach Willier and Billie Zizi, and more.
In addition, as per the news release, there is a Bubble Bike Dance Party featuring several costumed characters, music, the Mas Cariwest dancers and … bubbles!
You can also participate in games and activities organized by Edmonton Arts Council including table tennis, large format chess and checkers, snakes and ladders and giant Lego.
For those wanting to treat themselves can get tasty food from on-site food trucks.
Edmonton is under a heat warning with temperatures predicted to reach 33°C on Saturday.
You can cool down with end-of-summer splash in the City Hall fountain and free ice cream which will be served while supplies last.
After the festivities which end at 4 p.m., you can head to the Alberta legislature grounds for more celebrations.
