The City of Edmonton is introducing Street Sparks, a series of public events this summer aimed at encouraging the use of micromobility options such as e-scooters and electric bikes. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to support sustainable and accessible transportation for short- and medium-distance travel.

The events, which will be held on July 5 at Booster Juice Recreation Centre (2051 Leger Rd NW) and July 19 at Mayfield Park (10941 161 St NW), will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both dates. Attendees aged 18 and over can test ride e-bikes and e-scooters at no cost, take part in guided tours, and attend safety and maintenance workshops.
Vendors Bird, Lime, and Neuron will provide equipment and instruction during the events. However, personal devices like one-wheels and privately owned e-scooters remain prohibited on public roadways, in line with Alberta’s Traffic Safety Act, and will not be allowed at the event.
papastew Ward Councillor Michael Janz highlighted the importance of creating safe and inclusive environments for residents to learn about sustainable transportation. He emphasized that the event offers hands-on experience to help Edmontonians make informed choices.
In addition to rides and tours, workshops will cover topics such as route planning, e-bike repair, battery maintenance, and cycling safety. There will also be specialized sessions aimed at women and gender-diverse participants to build confidence using electric micromobility devices.
Family-friendly activities include a Kid Zone, live music, food trucks, and an exhibitor showcase featuring local vendors and organizations involved in active transportation.
Street Sparks is part of Edmonton’s effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution associated with traditional transportation. By promoting alternatives like cycling and shared e-rides, the city aims to reduce its overall carbon footprint and encourage a shift toward cleaner commuting options.
