Events Description
Canstruction is coming to Southcentre Mall this spring for a Welcome to the CANimal Kingdom edition! The CANimal Kingdom encompasses all the weird and wonderful creatures that are a part of the forests, deserts, oases, swamps and jungles of our world. Who will be the top dog? King or queen of the jungle? The ultimate apex predator? Only time will tell!
This spectacular event brings together teams of engineers, designers, architects and builders to create extraordinary structures out of non-perishable food items. Using thousands of cans of food, seven teams will compete to create structures that will be on display at the mall until April 3. At the end of the exhibit, all food used will go to the Calgary Food Bank. This edition’s builders include Bantrel, Calgary Co-op/Elan/Zeidler, City of Calgary, Fluor, Tri Innovations, Perkins & Will, and St. Michael’s School.
Canstruction® Calgary brings together teams of engineers, designers, architects and builders to create extraordinary structures out of non-perishable food items. The structures are judged, exhibited to the public and then de-canstructed, with food going to the Calgary Food Bank. Each year, there is a theme that teams must base their design around. Since 2006, this event has provided nearly 641,698 pounds of food to needy Calgarians. Canstruction® Calgary is the local chapter of Canstruction, a global anti-hunger project founded by the Society for Design Administration, an affiliate organization of the American Institute of Architects. The event is held in more than 50 cities across North America.
